Chief.
"Arrowhead is not what it once was... it's lost it's mystique."-Steve Young, ESPN's NFL CountdownExcuse me? Lost its mystique? This quote was flashing on the big screen in the stadium at various times during the Chiefs-Broncos game. I'm just saying, no stadium loses its "mystique" with fans as loyal as the ones in Kansas City, Cleveland, Oakland, Green Bay, Chicago, Denver, New England, tell me if I missed any. Sorry Steve, Arrowhead Stadium is still the same as when you played there and couldn't escape Derrick Thomas.(I would have posted this yesterday, but I was at the game)
Jigga
Stadia don't have mystiques...your outrage is misplaced. You went to the game, your boys won, rejoice. So a member of the media makes a statement you don't like, big deal.

Notre Dame? Those are universally considered to be cathedrals of sports. Maybe not the new Soldier Field, but in the days of Butkus, sure. And there are positively hands down stadiums you dont want to play in in December. Arrowhead is one of them. Dont think so? Ask any Raiders or Broncos player who has to go there this month.
Chief.
I'm not outraged or anything, I'm just saying it was kind of odd. It's hard for a stadium like that to lose mystique especially after all those sellouts and December Victories.

FiddySicks
I KIND OF agree. I remember back in the day when the Chiefs and Broncos were constantly competing for the tops in the AFC West. I remember how HUGE the games were back in the days of John Elway and Elvis Gerbac (Yes, Elvis Gerbac(sp?)well, thats the most exciting times i can remember in my short 17 years anyway) and for awhile there it kind of lost its mistique because there were a few years there where the Chiefs were either not in the playoff hunt, or they were just blowing everyone else in that division out and it wasnt terribly exciting. So in that respect i agree with Young. One thing though is that even though it fell off for a bit, with the strength back in the AFC West, its coming back. Maybee not this year but for sure next year itll be at full strength.

brinkeguthrie
No.He said stadiums dont have mystiques to them, which is false. Tell me a rookie is at bat in the top of the 9th against Rivera in the Bronx, with the tying run at the plate, and he thinks "Ruth..Gehrig..Dimaggio..Mantle..."Arrowhead doesnt have a mystique due to a championship legacy, like the Yankees or Notre Dame. It DOES have ferocious, over the top intense nutso loyal fans.
HedleyLamarr
So a member of the media makes a statement you don't like, big deal. Chief.
Yeah, I'm not mad or outraged or anything here, I'm just saying I think Arrowhead is still very tough to play in. Like Curty said, the fans are LOUD. Just like Denver, it's tough, it's loud, it's intimidating. The atmosphere is still there and will probably be there for a long time. I only went ballistic when people tried to say his comments weren't racist...at least try to pay attention to what I actually say if you try to call me out on it. Ask any Raiders or Broncos player who has to go there this month. I just have to throw this out - Butkus only played at Soldier Field his last three years (1971-'73) after starting at Wrigely ('65-'70). While the "old" Soldier Field had history, most people forget the Bears never played there until 1971 (it was built in 1924)... Check out the ChicagoBears.com Soldier Field history site, and the SoldierField.net site, which includes a nice flash pop-up...Moose
jkrdevil
No.He said stadiums dont have mystiques to them, which is false. Tell me a rookie is at bat in the top of the 9th against Rivera in the Bronx, with the tying run at the plate, and he thinks "Ruth..Gehrig..Dimaggio..Mantle..." No the rookie is not. He's going,"Plop I have to face Rivera." I have to agree a bit that stadiums don't have mystics. They might have a little as in when you walk in you think that but to be honest with you what makes the mystic is the team your facing. Yankee Stadium wouldn't have that mystic in the late 90's if the Yankees sucked.
See Red
Eh, mystique or not... Lynch doesn't get called for that BS helmet to helmet contact call, it's a totally different game. I imagine that's probably the toughest place to go into play.
infrared41
"Arrowhead is not what it once was... it's lost it's mystique."-Steve Young, ESPN's NFL Countdown I think that applies to every stadium in the NFL these days. With the higher costs, the "go to be seen" dorks in suits on cell phones, and the overall expenses pushing the "blue-collar" (re:poorer) fans out the door, I think it's safe to say that most if not all stadiums have lost a little "mystique." Gone are the days of 80,000 "regular guys" filling the seats. It's a lot more suits and upper middle class fans than it used to be. There's nothing inherently wrong with that it's just the way things are now. The "rich folk" just don't seem to "act a fool" as much as us regular people.
