Who hired the Pirates equip. Manager?

I know we discussed this last season but I honestly thought the problem would have been fixed this year. Unfortunately is hasn't. Im watching the Cardinals play the Pirates and every single Pirates player has different sleeves under his vest. Craig Wilson is wearing a long sleeve shirt cut off at the elbow. Jack Wilson is wearing some hideous black elastic short sleeve thing with yellow dots in it. And the logo patch is in a different spot on every sleeve, if its there at all.

This is incredibly bush league for a major league baseball team. If you are going wear vests it should at least be uniform

I know more than the pirates wear those undershirts, but they are designed to be worn with sleeved jerseys. However I wouldn't have a problem with it if the whole team wore them. I think the Pirates should just do away with the sleeve patch all together.

It's quite possible that the equipment manager just hands out the gear, but the players choose to wear those stupid shirts. Players often make horrible decisions on what to wear and it's possible that they don't care if they match.

one can say that this makes a good case for a faux-sleeveless uniform like what the angels and blue jays used to wear. that way this sort of thing cant happen.

i was thinking the same thing, i'm normally not a fan of those but since these grown men can't seem to match maybe its not such a bad idea.

Yeah, you can't necessarily lay the blame at the equipment manager on this one.

Guys have their preferences, and sometimes no matter what you do they're going to do things their own way.

I'd like to see vests gone completely. It's like three NBA teams wearing sleeved uniforms while the rest don't.

And on THAT note, college players look dumb with white t-shirts under their uniforms. That looks like what you'd wear on a Saturday afternoon at the Y, not what you'd wear in the Big Dance.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I know the Pirates equipment manager and it's the player's personal preference as to what undershirt is worn. They have different suppliers and it comes down to what the player feels most comfortable in. As for the Nike undershirts with the logo up on the shoulder... that was last year's model which Nike misread the specs on. They measured from the neck down instead of the shoulder down, that's why the logo is so terribly high. Nike apparently botches a lot of stuff.

I have to agree though that all of the different undershirts brings down the overall look of the uniform. Personally, I wish they would dump the vests. The 1997-2001 home and road uniforms were my favorites. I wish they would go back to them but they won't. The Pirates' vest itself is pretty popular.

I agree. I really hate the fact that the text on the front of the jersey doesn't match the logo (especially since there is no black alternate jersey this season).

The Nike undershirts are an eyesore and it's more noticable on the sleeveless jerseys.

i wasn't particularly blaming the equipment manager, it was more or less a sarcastic remark for lack of a better thread title.

I just about figured the players chose their own undershirts

sorry for the confusion on that.

And my bad, I was referring to the uniforms that the Bucs wore between 1997 and 2000 as my favorites, not 1997 through 2001. They obviously changed the year they moved into PNC.

What's interesting though is that last year, a fan poll rated the black alternate jersey as the most popular of the three home jerseys. This year they dropped it.

One can say that, but it doesn't mean one should say it. There's no such thing as a good case for faux-sleeveless vests. Wouldn't the sensible thing be to mandate that the player must wear the black undershirt directly beneath the game jersey (unless they wanted to go Ted Kluszewski bare-armed... :puke:), and if they want to shill for Nike, wear that under the undershirt? If nothing else, selling out will be a sweatier proposition...

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.
