And the uniforms are recognizable, but nothing special.Few people (especially on this board) can separate fanaticism from design aesthetics. Whenever I see a 'Best Uniforms' thread, it should read 'Rose-colored glasses uniforms' thread. I get a kick out of people saying Penn State has a great uniform. The fact is they wear a great canvas. They can start painting anytime. Wait. I hate both the Raiders AND Penn State, and I love both of 'ems outfits. So how do you explain my like? I'm not a nerd about colors, and I'm not a fan about the teams. I would guess you're obsessed with tradition, which has nothing to do with good or aesthetically pleasing design. Sometimes an "aesthetically pleasing design" isn't the be all and end all of a good uniform. Infact it, in some cases, it doesn't matter at all. The Browns are a good example. That colour scheme is awful and the logo is plain. If some new team unveiled those uniforms today they'd be laughed at. Yet should the Browns change? Not in a milliuon years. That said, I hate the Raiders with the fire of a thousand suns. Go Bolts.Here here! LMU Posted August 1, 2006 Share Posted August 1, 2006 The one thing about the Raiders is that a lot of leftover fans in LA have bumper stickers and such with seemingly modernized logos to associated themselves with Raider Nation. Yah the colors are great but the jerseys are so plain there isn't even and outline around the numbers and no logos on the unis. The logo is just plain stupid. There are swords going thru his head, the helmet looks messed and why does he look like hes stoned. There are some great classic looks like the red sox and yankess that actually look good. But the Raiders no they dont look good. I love the Raiders logo and uniforms. It fits Oakland and the team like a glove. If the Raiders changed their uniforms, they may end up like the Buccaneers with even :censored:tier uniforms than they had before. Keep the Raiders the same, anyone who messes with the Raiders look probably won't do much of a good job. So your trying to tell me that you tink the Bucs unis they have now are WORSE than the Orange Cream Pop unis? Hmmm. Never heard that one before. Their road uni's used to have silver numbers with a black outline, which IMHO looked way better than the current ones. EWWW! They just need more contrast going on in the home uniforms with the white pants, that's all. Nothing bothers me more then someone arguing a uniform has a great design because it is a classic. I think most of us can spit out the teams that have classic looks. Yes, tradition dictates some teams' looks shouldn't be overhauled. Gotcha. Agree 100%. But when looking at actual design merits I could care less about tradition for tradition's sake. The only time tradition enters the equation for me is when a design is so well done initially nobody wants to change it and it becomes traditional for its look alone. I just wish folks would separate artistic merit from tradition when judging or experimenting with classic team identities.When I look at any uniform, I imagine the team debuted it just yesterday, and judge from there. If the Raiders were an expainsion team and introduced those jerseys and logos you would all ripe it. The Raiders didn't need one in the past to crush their opponents, and to change it now just because the franchise has fallen on hard times is short-sighted at best.
