anyone have that article about brooks begging the buccs to wear the throwbacks?

he's a class act :)

I find it funny that as soon as the Buccs dropped the orange jersey in '97 (because orange was too 'wimpy'), other NFL teams started adding orange as an alternate jersey: Broncos, Dolphins, Browns, Bengals!

He's also my cousin. :P No--seriously...he is.

This from Mr. Glazer: "the Buccaneers uniforms of the past will stay in the past."

That's the short version.

Basically the geezer don't wanna ever get near the creamsicles again. They're representative of bad history and even worse teams. The thing about it, though, is some people LIKE those uniforms (COUGH COUGH--A-AHEEMMM!!!!), and would like to see them AT LEAST every now and then. I mean, after all, did they not make it to a championship game in those? Had a future Hall-of-Fame tacke (Paul Gruber) play in them, another few potential HOF'ers (Lee Roy Selmon, Hardy Nickerson, and my good cousin Bo) play in them...it ain't ALL BAD.

But I'll see if I can find that article somewhere amongst my litany of stuff...

ON ANOTHER NOTE...

I do like the powder blue of the 60's...but, like Cranium, I like the early '80's rendition better (the elder K. Winslow/D. Fouts era). Maybe, just maybe, if they were to use that shade of blue and yellow, with a white shell and white pants, but with the numbers they currently have...just a thought.

What they have now looks pretty good, too--but, still...

maybe glazer should have bought an expansion team... you can't disown a history. like it or not, it's the same team.

AGREED WHOLEHEARTEDLY.

Another big blowup about Glazer's hard-line stance on the old uniforms is that the die-hard legion of Buccaneer followers who were down with the team BEFORE THE RE-BRANDING and EVEN THROUGH ALL THE YEARS OF MISERY still relate to those uniforms in a way, so to just cast them off in the ocean somewhere really is to alienate that hard-core fanbase (myself included--so how glad was I when my cousin got drafted by them?). Yes--I know the team, with new ownership, new coaching staff and a new crop of players, was due for a change some kind of way, but still...YOU CAN'T FORGET YOUR PAST.

HEY GLAZER...YOU CAN NOT FORGET THE PAST!!!

can't wait to see them in play. It makes you wonder if the team is slowly moving to the classic look for the long term, which i wouldn't mind. I think the bills should too.

I was thinking the same thing. I think they might switch to those uniforms. I have nothing against their uniforms they have now, but those throwbacks are so much better. I hope they switch.

The "half full" part of me says the Charger whites are simply a ploy by the Spanos' to try and reduce the groundswell of support for the powder blues. Every time the team wears the blues, ESPN, FOX, CNN, etc. all go on and on about how great the look is... making Spanos look like a fool. By going with the whites, he'll appease the throwback crowd while not bringing as much attention to its superior look.

I do think that the present unis are pretty sweet for the chargers, as long as they don't go all white. (sorry, I usually hate all white unis). They are certainly one team that I would not want to change too much. (assuming that they would never switch to powder blues full time).

don't get your hopes up. I see many people wearing chargers unis at school, on the street etc., and 9 times out of 10 it's a powder blue throwback. So you know the sales are hot for those, and that fans wouldn't mind if they switched full time.

I'd guess it'd be Dec 3rd at Buffalo. Old AFL rivalry, with both teams sporting throwbacks.

Yet another loss tallied by the San Diego throwbacks.

The Bills should be so lucky. As I recall, the Bills played at San Diego last season and got thwomped pretty good. San Diego was in the powder blues.

Maybe they're playing the Thanksgiving game? That might explain the white throwbacks.

San Diego really doesn't do well in the throwbacks. My point was scheduling them on an away game in Buffalo in December doesn't help change that trend.

Yeah ill say this though. As a Bucs fan i NEVER want to see them wear the old unis again. Do I hate them that much? No. Do I really think that itll bring bad luck? No. Would they, especially with todays updated gear from RBK, look good? Hell yes!!!! But the reason I dont want to see them wear them, or put out any more merch with the old logos or colors is because its hard to find old bucs gear. From t shirts to hats to jerseys its a chore looking for the old stuff. But when you do find it, as a Bucs fan, your stoked, and you appreciate it that much more. Having them wear the throwbacks would just lessen that IMO.

The Chargers Originals (i'm refusing to call them throwbacks anymore. It's almost disrespectful), are the best uniform the team has had in it's history. THey should have never been changed, and that mistake has been stuck with for close to thirty years. Since 1994, when the public was re-introduced to the majesty that was the Chargers Originals, there has been a huge groundswell not only in San Diego, but around the country, to have the Originals brought back to the ful-time uniform. after 12 years of teasing... it's about time they make a decision: Either switch to the Originals full-time, or lock them away and do not let them out again.

I can't be the only person on here who thinks the Chargers should scrap their entire identity and start over from scratch. That lightning arc looks good ONLY on the helmets. And ONLY on the dark blue helmets.

No way!!!

You can't have too many lightning bolts on their unis. I was p!ssed when they took them off their pants for awhile. IT is part of what makes them distinctiive. Otherwise, they'd just look like the texans with yellow.

Personally, I prefer the throwbacks to the modren Charger colors... the gleaming white helmet and powder blues. By the way, I was once told that the color is not powder blue but collegiate blue...anyone know? And any Charger fans here can conform what other Charger fans have told me...that most fans wish they wore the throwbacks all the time?r

Best look the Chargers have ever had (sans 25th anniversary patch):

200_fouts_102605.jpg

The interesting thing I'm seeing this year, is more people wanting to stick with the current navy or use the Fouts-era unis as throwbacks:

San Diego Tribune Charger Forum: Throwbacks

Yes, we blew away Buffalo last year in them, but we also lost another BIG game in them against Pittsburgh. That one game put us permanently behind in the playoff race and we never recovered.

"Colligate Blues" (from the Charger's offical website) are okay once a year, maybe. But I hate the thought of them being fulltime. They're overrated and I hate the helmets: the numbers look stupid and the white shell looks empty without them. Time to put'em down! (Speaking of "Time", Roger I couldn't diagree more...I know I'm not the only Charger fan that was highly angered when the took the bolts off the pants. Their lightning bolt is very distinctive...you see it and know it's the Chargers).

The interesting thing I noticed in the new Official Charger Merchandise catalog, is that there are several items playing with the Bolt color scheme. A few have a yellow bolt (like the Fouts-era) and even more have navy with a gold outline. Maybe that's where the true future is headed???

I too love the Fouts-era unis...since the Rams changed, no NFL team is wearing blue and yellow any more.

Why don't the Chargers do what the Jets did and do an "updated throwback"? They could bring back the powder blues, drop the numbers from the helmet, change the facemask to powder blue, and have powder blue road pants to wear with the white jersey.

...change the facemask to powder blue...

heh, you almost had me... but a powder blue facemask made me gag a little.
