All of which is fine with me, assuming it is well executed. That does not mean that I like any cartoony logo, but I see nothing inherently wrong with them. leedsunited
I'm sure it does look more in line with the actual bird, but what's stopping them there? Just throw an Audobon reproduction on the hat and be done with it.You're kidding right? It's a graphical depiction of an oriole, it need not be the audobon reproduction to convey that it indeed is an oriole. Those cartoon logos everyone creams themselves over look more like Heckle and Jeckle than they do orioles.logos should look like logos, not cartoon characters.By this logic, you should also be saving some invective for your Sharks.Tell me wiseass, do you see the shark wearing a helmet, gloves and skates? Please tell me you're pullin' my chain here. Yeah, sharks are usually black and gnawin' on hockey sticks. I think Cousteau got a few shots on those on his last expedition.Tell me wiseass, do you see the shark wearing a helmet, gloves and skates? Not at all. He is just eating a hockey stick, as occurs with sharks in their natural habitat.just like cardinals using baseball bats as natural perches or dolphins wearing football helmetsWhich are all damn fine sports logos, and not in the least physically accurate depictions of the namesakes. Sharks logo included, which is a damn fine one, but cartoony nonetheless.
IronChefShark
when I refer to "cartoony" I refer to logos that depict some sort of character dressed in a uniform and actually playing the sport. St. Louis Cardinal perched on a bat = goodSt. Louis Cardinal wearing a hat and swinging a bat = badSan Jose Shark biting a hockey stick = goodSan Jose Shark wearing a helmet, gloves and skates taking a shot on goal = bad (I believe there was an old RHI logo that depicted this)which of course, leads to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The skating penguin should have NEVER been reinstated as a primary logo. With some refining the modern logo (unfairly referred to as "pigeon penguin", "hummingbird", "robo-penguin") can be a great representation of an emperor penguin, the largest and most majestic of the penguin speciesRemember people, back in the day logos were not designed by "graphic designers", they were designed by cartoonists. Cartoonists should stick with cartoons and comic books and leave the logo design to those that know it best. US state flag concepts

Classic logos like the Cardinals' and Penguins' are timeless and beautiful, and the Penguins even retain the other logo on the shoulders, where IMO it is better suited, being simpler and less lively than the skating penguin. And c'mon, can you honestly tell me you don't love this guy? charles-noerenberg.com
swilson160
If you're going to go off about cartoony logos, what about this guy, Mr. Bananagrabber?I guess it's just a guy who, you know, grabs bananas and runs. Or a banana that grabs things. I don't know. Why would a banana grab another banana? I mean, those are the kind of questions I don't want to answer. COME ON!(I sure wish I had the animation rights to this guy).
