I've only been to 2.......

20. The Stanley Cup playoffs (late spring, various NHL cities)

90. Little League game (spring, early summer, everywhere)

In the next 12 months I will probably attend 3 more...

16. Hall of Fame induction (July, Cooperstown, N.Y.) Hopefully my uncle will take me. His friend may back out, and said if he does back out I am going.

74. Racing at Saratoga (late July-August, Sarasota, N.Y.) My aunt lives in Saratoga, and I am going to visit her in mid-August

87. "Monday Night Football" (September-December, various NFL cities) 10-8 Bills vs. Cowboys

Well, turns out of the three I thought I may attend, I will mabye attend only the Monday Night game. My uncle didn't take me to Cooperstown, and my aunt had a friend die, so we didn't visit her this year.

Two of the three soccer mentions are English. Jim Caple would seriously rather watch, say, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers than El Clasico at the Bernabeu? I'm not asking for more soccer mentions -- although my list would have a few extra -- just slightly better selection. The other two are fine, but just any old league match at 11? That's a little silly.

Here's some better ones...

Rangers-Celtic

Barcelona-Real Madrid

FC Porto-Sporting Lisbon

Hamburger SV-Werder Bremen

Marseille-Lyon

Ajax Amsterdam-PSV Eindhoven-Feyenoord Rotterdam-AZ Alkmaar (Any combination of the four)

Bayern Munich- TSV Munich 1860

Inter Milan-AC Milan

Torino-Juventus

AS Roma-Lazio

Best of all...

River Plate-Boca Juniors Attend in Riot gear only. :D

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

Things I've done:

15. Red Sox-Yankees game (April-October, Boston or New York) done both

16. Hall of Fame induction (July, Cooperstown, N.Y.) went the year Nolan Ryan, Robin Yount & George Brett went in. At least 40,000 people, the same time as Woodstock '99

20. The Stanley Cup playoffs (late spring, various NHL cities)

35. Boston Marathon (April, Boston)

61. Midnight Madness (October, all over the country) I've gone for hockey, much less publicized

90. Little League game (spring, early summer, everywhere) I umpire Little League baseball

other things I've done/attended that should go on the list:

AHL All-Star Game/Skills competition. They try just as hard as their NHL brethren.

Calder Cup Finals

World Curling Championships

Hockey East Championship

Boston Red Sox Patriot's Day Game (makes it easy to see the Marathon as well)

Back-to-Back Fatal Forty Champion 2015 & 2016

[AS Roma-Lazio

Agreed. When I went to Rome, you could tell it was a city divided. Roma's the Yankees of Italian calcio (No matter what any Juventus or AC Milan fan tells you),while Lazio (the best calcio ever to take the field) is more of the A's of Serie A.

89. Show-Me State Games (July, Columbia, Mo.)

WTF, mate!?

I've lived in Missouri all my life, and this has never registered as something monumental. I remember seeing a few pretty athletic kids in middle school with t-shirts from the games, but I've never even heard someone verbally mention them. Caple doesn't even give further explanation... are the Show-Me State Games even unique? I thought most other states had analogues...

There are 10 types of people in this world: those who understand binary and those who don't.

Oh yeah and you didn't see the other Argentinean derbies: Independiente vs Racing and Newell's vs Rosario Central. They are more riotous and thrilling than the marketed Boca-River.

GREEN = done it

BLUE = in the planning stage and will be done barring a catastrophe

RED = under serious consideration

The 101 Things Sports Fans Must Experience Before They Die:

1. Summer Olympics (every four years in a different city)

2. World Cup (every four years in a different country)

3. Winter Olympics (every four years in a different city) - we're going to Vancouver in 2010!

4. The World Series (every October, various cities) - 1983 and 1993; also attended the 1993 NLCS clincher

5. NCAA subregional (March, various sites) - twice, going back for more this year

6. Spring training (February-March, Florida and Arizona) - but not in almost 20 years, sadly

23. A game at Notre Dame (fall, South Bend, Ind.) - have lodging and tickets lined up, just a question of when; I had seats for UNC @ ND last year, which I gave up for the birth of my first child - a trade I'd happily make again.

24. ACC basketball tournament (March, various sites) - 5 times. About the only reason to go to Greensboro.

25. A soccer game at Maracana Stadium (various dates, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

26. Little 500 (late April at Indiana University) - a buddy is working on his PhD at IU, so this will get done soon.

30. Bayou Classic (November, New Orleans)

33. The All-Africa Amputee Football Tournament (Sierra Leone)

34. MLB Opening Day (April, various cities) - several times

Good choices, but Marseille-PSG is the true French derby.

If you wanna get technical, Marseille-PSG isn't a derby. That is for sure a big rivalry, but there is not a real derby in France because no city has 2 teams in the top flight. Lyon-St. Etienne is the closest to a true derby (in the proximity sense) that you get, and it just happens to take place this weekend.

My list of soccer games to go see in person would be like this:

Lyon-St. Etienne

Fenerbache-Galatasaray

Red Star-Partizan

Lazio-Roma

Racing-Independiente
