???

At the start of the season who would've expected that the game in KC next weekend would be #2 vs. #3? Wow.

I have a feeling Oregon will drop farther, since they also lost Dixon for the season.

From a Sooner fan's point of view: they had more than enough chances, even after falling behind, and Tech was just the better team Saturday night. A disappointing loss with some key injuries tossed in for good measure. :cursing:

As for the rankings, two schools of thought seem to exist, one that likes the topsy-turvy "who knows who will be in the Top 10 next" direction this year has taken, and another with the view that the rankings system is kind of a joke when there's so much parity (aka mediocrity). I see both sides...the rankings are like Whack-a-Mole, with teams popping up and then dropping off the radar based on the outcome of one game. Thats' especially true this time of the season, when a loss is fatal. You can lose in the first few weeks and still be in the hunt. There's just a lot about it that doesn't make sense.

Wish somebody had a better system.

Prediction: Once Lloyd Carr announces his "retirement" Monday the media immediately starts up with their never ending Les Miles to Michigan talk. LSU gets distracted and loses focus and the SEC title game. Missouri beats Kansas. Oklahoma beats Missouri. Ohio State then moves past one loss Kansas into a title shot against West Virginia and the whole Michigan/Florida argument from last season starts all over again only this time it's Kansas vs. Ohio State. And I spend the month of December defending my team and arguing against a playoff.

It's just the way this season has been playing out and it's just my luck. :D

I wasn't going to say anything for fear of jinxing Cap'n Leach, but this could be disastrous for the Big XII.

Unless, of course, Kansas wins out.

If that were to happen, it not only would the the best thing for the Big XII, but the best thing for college football. People would LOVE Kansas in a national title game. They say everybody loves an underdog, and Kansas is the underdog of underdogs.

Very few people think it's going to happen, including myself. If I were a betting man, I'd bet on Missouri over Kansas. And if the Jayhawks beat Missouri, they will still likely be the underdog in the Big XII championship game against ... well, whoever the South team is.

But imagine this for a second: Let's say Kansas does win its next two games, but LSU loses in the SEC championship game. So the Jayhawks would go into the national title game as the top-ranked team. How weird would that be?

As weird as Mark Mangino announcing he's joining weight watchers. :P

Texas Tech 27, Oklahoma 10 at the Half

34-13 Red Raiders after 3.

other things of Note...

Tim Tebow becomes first QB in FBS/1-A history to throw and run for 20 TDs each.

Boise St. lathers Idaho 58-14, showing Hawai'i how to properly put WAC teams to the sword in a final tuneup for their matchup next weekend.

Um Nevada and Idaho aren't exactly in the same pool when it comes to talent. Idaho is always a whipping post where Nevada has either won the WAC or been close the last few seasons. That and remember that Nevada went 5 overtimes with Boise this season and dropped almost 70 on em, losing by two in OT, same as in the Hawaii game (minus four overtimes and about 100 points  ). So to say Hawai'i shouldve put the Pack to pasture is probably a bit of a reach.

IIRC from what Outside the Lines said, I think it is. Awesome. I think ESPN should televise that, for sure.

They are going to be on ESPN on Black Friday. It should be a good game. DSU plays in a weak confrence, but UD has lost their last two games.

Five teams from the CAA got in, that was fairly suprising to me. I thought a Dayton, Villanova (still CAA though), or San Diego would get in over New Hampshire. I guess they wanted Ricky Santos to get one more chance to pad his stats. Wofford having to travel all the way to Montana as the SOCON champ is a little ludacris to me I figured they would get Eastern Washington to go to Montana, and have McNeese play Wofford.

Isn't there some sort of controversy because Delaware (the one that looks like Michigan) won't schedule games against State? I thought I saw somewhere that they used to play each other but they stopped a while back because the Blue Hens refused to schedule games against State for some BS reason. Then there were accusations of racism and all sorts of :censored: because of it. Anyone know the actual story?

Yeah, it was on an episode of Outside The Lines one Sunday. They never stopped playing each other because they've NEVER played each other. Most of the DU fans and media believed that it was their own administration being racist against DSU, most in DSU believed that DU didn't want to start this game up because it would breed contempt and division among the state of Delaware. Others who straddle the fence just think that DU is just plain scared of DSU, since DSU would schedule the game in a heartbeat, but DU doesn't have room for it in their schedule until 2010, and fears that a road game @ DSU wouldn't be profitable for either side, due to DSU having a stadium that's roughly the size of your average affluent high school. DU, on the other hand, has schedule Division II teams when they could've easily scheduled DSU, and DSU claims that this matchup has been possible since the late 80s-early 90s.

But now all that debate is a moot point, since they're gonna meet up in the playoffs.

From the top.

Starting off with conference leaders...

ACC leader is #8 Virginia Tech, as they are higher ranked in the BCS than #16 Virginia.

Big East leader is #3 West Virginia, as they are higher ranked in the BCS than #20 Connecticut.

Big Ten champion is #5 Ohio State.

Big XII leader is #2 Kansas, the only team unbeaten in the Big XII.

Pac-10 leader is #6 Arizona State, the only one-loss team in the Pac-10.

SEC leader is #1 Louisiana State, the only one-loss team in the SEC.

By rule, Missouri is an automatic qualifier for an at large berth, as they are #4 in the BCS and #3 is not an at-large team.

Our pool of eligible at-large teams are #7 Georgia, #9 Oregon, #11 Southern California, #12 Florida, and #14 Boston College. #10 Oklahoma and #13 Texas are not listed because Kansas and Missouri are guaranteed spots in BCS games, and a conference may only have two teams in the BCS.

Obviously, we must take #1 Louisiana State and #2 Kansas for the National Championship Game.

By contractual obligation, #5 Ohio State and #6 Arizona State go to the Rose Bowl, and #8 Virginia Tech goes to the Orange Bowl.

The Sugar Bowl gets the first selection of at-larges, as compensation for losing #1 Louisiana State to the NCG. I believe that they would take #7 Georgia to fill this void.

The Fiesta Bowl gets the next selection, as compensation for losing #2 Kansas. They take #4 Missouri.

Next, the Orange Bowl. They take #3 West Virginia.

The Fiesta Bowl has the next selection, and take #9 Oregon.

Finally, the Sugar Bowl would be required to take #14 Boston College, as they are the only at-large team left that is eligible to be selected.

In review:

Rose: #5 Ohio State (Big Ten Champion) v #6 Arizona State (Pac-10 Leader)

Sugar: #7 Georgia (At-Large) v #14 Boston College (At-Large)

Fiesta: #4 Missouri (At-Large/AQ) v #9 Oregon (At-Large)

Orange: #8 Virginia Tech (ACC Leader) v #3 West Virginia (At-Large/AQ)

NCG: #1 Louisiana State (SEC Leader) v #2 Kansas (Big XII )

Do we have any arguments with it this week?

If the the final two weeks of the college football season are as wacky as the rest of the season imagine a wacky BCS Bowl line-up like this (if things fall right):

BCS CHAMPIONSHIP - West Virginia (11-1, Big East Champ) vs. Ohio State (11-1, Big Ten Champ)

ROSE BOWL - USC (10-2, Pac-10 Champ) vs. Illinois (9-3, At-Large)

SUGAR BOWL - Georgia (11-2, SEC Champ) vs. Missouri (11-2, At-Large)

ORANGE BOWL - Virginia Tech (11-2, ACC Champ) vs. LSU (11-2, At-Large)

FIESTA BOWL - Texas (11-2, Big 12 Champ) vs. Arizona State (10-2, At-Large)

As much as I hate to say it Illinois would not go to the Rose Bowl, they are third in the conference behind Michigan.
