KCScout76
As many of you know I am the head football coach for the 8th grade team at Raytown South Middle School. In Missouri, you are allowed six games (no playoffs - no jamborees- just six games). The team is made up ofan A-Team and a B-Team, as two separate games are played on the same day. Both teams went undefeated, 6-0, for a combined record of 12-0. First time in school history.Athletics have been going on here since 1959. In 1982 they dropped athletics at the middle/jr. high school and itwas reinstated in 1997. I arrived here in 1998. In 2002, my A-Team went 6-0 (gave up 8 pts. all year) and the B-Team was 4-1-1.We currently have a banner hanging in my gym at school that recognizes that accomplishment. We are in the process of getting a new banner for this year's team. FYI - The A-team gave up 28 pts. this year.I not writing to brag - just to let you know the success that goes on in my life outside our little community here on the CC Boards. In fact my t-shirt logo was designed by axl007 - here on the boards.Just wanted to share a bit of good news in my life. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm bragging, it's justsomething that doesn't happen too often. Here are some Pix from two of our games vs. Smith-Hale and our Rival the Raytown Bluejays. KCScout76
Thanks gentlemen - Our offense set most of the time is a "Wing-Bone" which allows us to run mainly a power running game (pulling guards, lots of double teams) but we also run some unbalanced and over load (flex) formations. Most of our passing game is play action, which is set up nicely off the run. Our Defense is a 5-3 and the secondary is man to man coverage. We do some 6-2 formations and stunt our LBs 2/3s of the time. As far as coaching swimming, I lost that opportunity when the State Activities Association of Missouri, is all it's widsom, decided to move boys swimming from a Winter Sport to a Fall Sport. I coach football in the Fall so I lost that job - they moved the girls swim season to Winter, but they already have their coaches. So I'm let out of the picture. Too bad, I love to coach swimming. Here are some more pix:This is one of my RBs/LBs who is congratulating me on the win just after we beat Raytown 14-6. STL FANATIC
Oh yeah, forgot about that, KC. Happened the year after I graduated, so it never quite effected me. I played soccer in the fall, so it would have bothered me too, though I'd have chosen swimming. MisterE
Hey, you guys stole Illinois State's logo! Never thought I'd see their logo being used by anyone else. But seriously, congratulations on your season. Too bad Missouri doesn't have a state tournament, you guys could have gone pretty far. Illinois doesn't even have school-sponsored junior high football. Get Ron Santo in the Hall of Fame.
Jigga
That's a hell of an accomplishment. Congratuations to you, your players and the coaching staff. Billy B
Congratulations on the accomplishment, that looks like a pretty good team based on their size. What size field did you play on, was it full-size or shortened?Hey, you guys stole Illinois State's logo! Never thought I'd see their logo being used by anyone else. But seriously, congratulations on your season. Too bad Missouri doesn't have a state tournament, you guys could have gone pretty far. Illinois doesn't even have school-sponsored junior high football.Actually some junior highs got tackle football programs two years ago. But the public schools play on like 70 yard fields. Around here, the catholic schools (where I played) have more established programs and play on full-size fields.

KCScout76
Thanks guys - It took a lot of work on the part of my three coaches and myself to organize and whip into shape, 51 members of the team. We actually had two girls on the team. One of them was so athletic and hard working, she was our starting free safety. She is a "stud" softball player and a heck of a runner. The girls fit right in, no one thought any different of it. I've had girls, up to four one year, on 7 of my 10 teams at Raytown South. They dress in a separte room and do everything any football player can do.This is one of the girls - she's our B-Team starting Free Safety. Good player too. kewp80
Congrats on the great season!Pretty crazy that you have girls on your team. The one time I played against a team with a girl on it was in the Central Missouri State football camp. Can't remember the name of the team though. I think she was a lineman. So are you a teacher at the middle school too? Ever thought about coaching in the high school level? Cardinals -- Rams -- Blues -- Tigers -- Liverpool Check out my music! KCScout76
Thanks gang - to answer kewp80 (as in Kewpies of Columbia Hickman???), I have coached at the high school level. I taught and coached in Carrollton, Missouri. Home of the Trojans. Carrollton is a 2A school. I was there six years and at the varsity level for three. I coached the 7th & 8th grade teams for the first three years. I had two teams go 3-1-1 while I was the head coach. In 1998, as the running back/linebacker coach we went 10-0, beat Grain Valley and Lawson in the playoffs only to lose in the semi-finals to Springfield-Catholic H.S. who would win the state title that year.I have been asked twice to come up to the high school here at Raytown South, however I turned it down until my daughter is older. She is 7 now. When I was in Carrollton, I was gone all the time and I wasn't around my son much so I made a promise to myself, if I was ever in the same situation, I'd do it differently. I'd like to make the move up, but my daughter comes first.
