Olesz does bring his contract over, which isn't nearly as awful as Campbell's, but still has some weight:

2011/12: $3.4 million

2012/13: $4 million

2013/14: $4.25 million

So I'm guessing Steven Reinprecht is our defensive center? He sure as crap can't score goals anymore.

Yeah, Olesz probably gets waived and buried.

I look forward to the exploits of the Florcago PantherHawks, red jerseys and all.

Ex-Blackhawks, ugly red jerseys... Man, these guys really are trying to be the second coming of the Thrashers. I wouldn't be surprised if they try starting negotiations with True North come January.

Against the Canuckss the Sedins really exposed the Sharks D. I love this trade for them. Coture really stepped up this year and made Setoguchi expendable. I think being with Boyle will really help Burns become the player everyone thought he might be. Boyle, Burns, and Murray is a really nice top three.

Except for the Bruins in the finals, who didn't the Sedins expose? That's like saying the Gretzky era Edmonton Oilers exposed whatever team they were playing against. Only one team shut them down, and that was the Cup Champion Bruins. I'm just baffled that San Jose would trade a scorer like Setoguchi, their #1 from last year, this year's #1 for a #3 or #4 defenseman. That's just something you don't do unless you feel your job is on the line. This was a move of desperation by San Jose, and a bad one at that. Stop and think about this. The Kings got a solid #1 or #2 center for a serviceable third liner and a top prospect. San Jose got a #3 or #4 for a sniper, a streaky one - but still a scorer, a top prospect and a #1 this year for a #3 or #4 defenseman. San Jose overpaid big-time.

I imagine now that they have room they'll just buy Reinprecht out.

Actually, I might prefer Reinprecht. We need a #4 center, not some flaky washout of a winger.

I agree on Olesz, that's going to be a Huet-like situation with dumping him, but Reinprecht doesn't really intrigue me. As a 4th line center, I don't see why we wouldn't just keep Johnson who's already got a terrific rapport in the locker room and does the same thing for far, far, far less.

I'll agree with you that this might've been a bit of a reactionary move, but I think when it's all said and done, San Jose won't miss what they gave up much. Over paid a bit? Probably. Vastly overpaid? I really don't think so.

No Reinprecht?

Nope, one-for-one apparently now.

The Preds did a good job of limiting the Sedins, then against the Sharks they had the room to play their game and go nuts.

Burns is a top 2 D-man. He's a big guy that can skate real well and make great passes. Very smooth player and being around a wide array of offensive guys will IMO flourish in SJ.

They needed to get to the floor, not off it. I think they were $30 million beneath it before the trade. Yikes.

This is probably a pretty awful trade for the Blackhawks unless it enables them to make some huge signings. I'm not even penciling this Olesz goof into potential depth charts.

Any deal that got Campbell's contract off the books can't be a bad trade. Olesz's contract is manageable as hell compared to $7 million a year until 2015. I doubt Olesz makes the team unless he has some sort of 'new team' revival.

The Hawks might be reluctant to have Huet's and Olesz's dead money on the books. That's about $9 million for players who don't play here. They only got about a million for the Huet loan, as I recall.

Wow, CapGeek is on the ball. Processed all of tonight's trades already. So the Hawks have $14MM in space ($17.1MM if they unload Rusty), Frolik, Stalberg, Dowell, and Campoli are all RFAs, they might need money for Hendry or Johnson as a UFA, and they need money for a second goalie, unless Salak gets the next turn on the revolving door. Still seems kinda tight.

Oh, and the Panthers are still $26 million under the floor. That place is gonna turn into one hell of a retirement community, as overpaid past-their-prime vets take their talents to a swamp somewhat accessible to South Beach.

I agree, I feel like they're willing to give Olesz a shot. He's doing a complete 180 from florida to chicago in terms of competitiveness, maybe with the new cast and crew he'll find his groove.

Salak is confirmed to be the backup for Crawford. Stalberg is probably getting non-tendered, though because Dale Tallon isn't here anymore, it will be intentional. Campoli absolutely needs to be back with Campbell gone; his price went up a lot. 99% sure Frolik is back. Not sure about Dowell, but it couldn't hurt to have him around. Ryan Johnson is a league-minimum guy if he's anything. Hendry too.

"Rusty Olesz" sounds like a sex act you don't want to elaborate upon. At least there's fun to be had with that.

Will he be lined up with Frolik? Like in.....Florida???

I don't know, everyone is eventually lined up with everyone with Joel Quenneville (I still remember the Khabibulin-Toews-Kane power play unit from the '09 playoffs), but I don't see him anywhere but the fourth line. Frolik is up top with Bolland and Hossa, most likely.
