This is a concrete monstrosity too, and the concrete is already crumbling on this one.

Hyperbole. The facade (the outside walls) of the old stadium, which was concrete was cracking, in the new stadium the facade is made of limestone, that does not crack. What was a cracking was a section of the a pedestrian ramp inside the stadium, which was fixed, and was not a structural isssue, but only a cosmetic one. Other than that, their hasn't been any other problems. The media is good at making a mountain out of a molehill.

I'm sorry, anyone who's actually been to the old stadium and the new one and STILL wishes they didn't get a new park has to be legally insane. The old park was the biggest toilet I've ever seen in a sports stadium, second only to Aloha Stadium in Hawaii. The new park is one of the best in baseball. It kept the general feel of the old place but is miles better in just about every way.

Speaking of the new Little League field, I was there last summer when they were building it and it looked like it was going to be a nice place. I took a tour of Miller Park last week and the guide said that the Brewers did something similar with the spot where Milwaukee County Stadium used to be. It's now the nicest little league field I've ever seen.

Yeah, I think Helfaer Field is the name of it.

What I liked about the old Yankee Stadium is that it sort of kept the Yankees grounded. Here's the greatest sports team on the planet, and they play in a large but humble concrete bowl in the dumpy old South Bronx. It gave some much-needed populist spirit to an organization that could buy and sell every player and team in the league. The new Stadium is oppressively opulent to me. It's like a great big monument to separating people from money.

As much as I'd love to just hate on anything Yankees related, this is really cool. Nothing wrong with some nice landscaping.

As long as we're talking about old home plates, they have the site of the Metropolitan Stadium's home plate in the middle of Nickelodeon Universe in the Mall of America.

They also have the location of the spot where the longest home run ever hit at the Met landed, marked by the chair the ball landed on.

This is exactly how I feel about the Yankee Stadiums, well put. The Original Yankee Stadium was a dumpy facility but It had such a unique atmosphere due to the team/stadium dynamic. The new stadium is nice, I love the Great Hall, but compared to the old stadium it's just a behemoth and has no charm. One of the most exciting things about old Yankee Stadium was walking up the ramps and through the cramped concourses only to peer out of the tunnel to see the outfield signage and then emerge to see one of the most historic baseball fields in history. Literally gave me chills.

Yes, I could not agree more. To be honest I actually loved walking up those crowded ramps, and then finally seeing the field. Now you can just take an elevator which is convenient, but I really enjoyed the old ramps. Also I used to love the old tunnel you would take to get to the gates of the stadium. Especially before or after a big game when you would get the "Let's Go Yankees" chants followed by the ferocious banging of the walls. The new stadium still has a tunnel, but it's more of a train station stop. But I agree with you guys that the new stadium doesn't have/will never have the charm that the old one had.

I would agree with you guys if they didn't destroy the old Yankee Stadium in the 70's. All the charm in the ballpark left the stadium when they took down it's best feature, and put a knock off above the center field score board.

The frieze in the new stadium obviously isn't as detailed as the original, but at least it's back where it belongs, around the entire bowl.

And when they covered the historic gate with this piece of crap.

Why couldn't the Yankees have put the frieze in the outfield as well as above the grandstand? A whole generation thinks of it as being in the outfield. Have it both ways. Gimme the deep frieze, mamma-jamma.

SHAME ON YOU ADRIAN BENEPE!!!

ROT IN HELL FOR TEARING DOWN THE OLD STADIUM DOWN!!

Why have it up if it's not being used?

This. That is pretty awesome, and it provides a great chance for the community to be a part of the Yankees, and play where they did.

That would look bad. If they put a frieze above the outfield scoreboard it would not connect with the rest of the frieze above the grandstand. That would look forced.

I will say this though, while the new monument park is much nicer than the older one, it's location sucks. It's in a box shaped section behind the center field wall, in the old stadium is pas much more "parkish" Personaly think they should demolish that entire area behind the center field wall. While the Sports Bar is a sick spot to be in, it does block the view of some bleach seats, plus you could open up that whole section and turn into into a much better Monument Park.

Dexter just summed up the most disappointing thing about the old Yankee Stadium to me. When I first walked in and saw it my first thought was what the f*** is that plastic crap around the scoreboard? THAT'S the grand frieze that I've heard so much about? It reminded me of those $20 plastic spinner rims you get at Kragen. Looked just awful. That combined with the overall condition of the park just seemed so terribly out of place for the Yankees. The new frieze looks absolutely fantastic as does the rest of the park. Sure it's the Yankees version of the Death Star, but that just makes it all the more exciting to bring down when you find that hole no bigger than a womp rat located somewhere in left center.

I have been to both stadiums. The new Yankee Stadium is very amazing for a new stadium. The old stadium was neat because of the history, even though it was technically not the original Yankee Stadium. I was in monument park in the old one and it was cool. I haven't been in monument park in the new one, but the museum is the new stadium was awesome!!!

Sporting Venue Count (for games): OHL: 19 (28 Total)- 770 games (after 18-19),

MLB: 13 (15 Total), NHL: 4

The museum is one of the best I've ever seen.

Plus it's air conditioned with a feed of the game. I spent about 3 innings in their once last summer. (it was around 100 degrees that day)
