Well that was a total buzzkill.

Pros:

- The Giants sstruck out 16 times last night.

- The Reds have two chances at home to finish it off and one of those games will be started by Matt Latos.

- The idea that Homer Bailey can't pitch at home is out the window. He was about as good as he could be in a playoff loss. The Reds will be able to lean on him if they can get to the NLCS, which is big considering Cueto probably won't be back until the World Series.

Cons:

- Scott Rolen is old. I love him, but he's old. He's batting 100 for the series and his error in the 10th cost the Reds a run and ultimately the game. I think Todd Frazier needs to be in the lineup today.

- Mike Leake is pitching today. He's basically a worse Bronson Arroyo and you never know what guy is going to show up when he's on the mound.

- If Brandon Phillips doesn't try to turn a passed ball into two bases then the Reds could've taken a 2-0 lead in the first, instead of just 1, and that would've been all they needed.

- If the Reds don't win today then they can look forward to Matt Cain on Thursday. The prospect of beating him twice in a five game series is a tall task.

Forget 2010, this is my first real go-around in the playoffs. This is intense.

I'll just say this. Despite the win last night, your Reds look to be just head and shoulders above my Giants right now. I was really aprehensive about them throwing Vogelsong last nigth with no playoff experience, but he and the bullpen really got the job done. That pitching performance reminded me a lot of what we looked like during the 2010 run. Unfortunately, so did the hitting. That was probably the ugliest win I've seen the Giants get this season, but a win is a win. If our bats can wake up, and our pitching continues to do what it did last night, I'm confident we can still take this series. If you would've told me two years ago that our playoff lives would hinge on a Barry Zito start, I probably would've caught a plane to Cincy and strangled Bochy and Sabean. But with the way he's pitched this season, I'm actually really confident that he can keep the runs at a minimum. Cincinnati has the upper hand, no doubt. But there is something to be said about the pressure a team faces when they're trying to pick up their first ever playoff win in their home ball park. It's still a tall task against a VERY scary team, but the Giants aren't dead just yet.

Pagan just homered to lead off the game off Mike Leake and the wind is blowing out. Get ready for a game 5.

Having Lincecum in the pen is a GREAT option for the Giants. That's not likely to continue though after Zito being Zito today.

Man if the Cards and Giants win tomorrow, it would be the greatest NLCS since 2002.

FYP.

In all seriousness though, I would absolutely LOVE to see a Cards Giants matchup. I know a lot of people wouldn't be feeling it, but to see the last two World Series Champs battle it out for a chance to win the pennant would be just fantastic. Not to mention my particular love for both of those Franchises :P

I'm hoping Oakland can pull it out as well. An A's vs Giants/Cardinals World Series would be troll central!
