XFL 2023 Logos, Names and Uniforms
BrandMooreArt replied to The Golden One's topic in Sports Logo News
i think these turned out better than anyone honestly expected. the unis are certainly a step up from the logos / identities. still, a lot of repeated ideas; seems the template was really restrictive. you dont see any custom cut and sew or elements breaking from the template, like say the Seahawks stripes. color palette overall very limited. but i like what they did with the number fonts which ate well ahead of Nike’s offerings. legible but customized enough i feel like for every pro theres a con. id say overall its perfectly average. nothing impressive or especially tasteful and only the Vipers feel particularly awful. @Old School Fool NFL teams all use their own balls but they all look the same. i wonder if thats the case here, where the offenses will always play with the team ball? i think its a cool idea but, the ball design is just as meh as the rest of it all -

i think so, UAB doesnt have the whiskers but i definitely see Chinese dragon compare to the horns and more reptilian face of Seattle -

thats more similar than i remembered, but to be fair they’re both pretty standard dragon logo compositions. i feel like if most were going to do a “sports logo dragon” thats the first thing you go to. actually, all of these logos kind of feel like the first idea. to get real nerdy about though, UAB is a Chinese dragon, the XFL team a European dragon -
thats the perpetual struggle of the Designer; to find that relevant “thing” that represents a culture, and turn it into a symbol. but NJ is not unique in that it is made of diverse cultures across the state you’re right, state fauna and flora are not relevant and are lame symbols anyway. look to what other flags represent, like the US flag. it represents the physical (states) with shapes, but a set of values with color. keep digging deeper; dont settle for the obvious

i think your execution is perfectly fine, its the idea i would challenge you to revisit. is there anything more interesting or representative of NJ than the state’s shape?

this roo definitely lifts! solid, iconic silhouette here and some interesting line work that divides light and shadow. i don't love it, but its a detail you dont see very often; cant think of another mascot logo like that. they probably spent a good amount of time fine tuning the yellow and light blue areas to make sure the lighting and form was right. the right (viewer left) arm might be a bit short? im not a fan of these kinds of illustrated animal-human logos, but for what it is, this one is alright. odd choices on type all around. the angles and cuts on the letters are all over the place. theres not a single attractive letterform in "Kansas City" and that particular "C" is just gross. the thin, white outline against yellow is blasphemy, strokes should never be that thin and i dont believe in putting white against yellow like this. whats the point? KC is widely tracked and never kerned. look at the space between T-Y or K-A. The University line is as much of an afterthought. Leading all around too tight as well. It truly feels like they worked the whole time on the mascot and phoned in the typography on the last day. The monogram on mascot chest has nothing in common with the other type either. "Evoking the past while creating a new future was a major goal of the project." — thats from the linked article. is everyone taking Nike's tagline as their ethos now? even Adidas is saying the same kind of thing.

MLB Stadium Saga: Oakland/Tampa Bay/Southside
BrandMooreArt replied to So_Fla's topic in Sports In General
i love the idea. i cant think of a bolder idea for a single team in sports history. this would be absolutley wild and im hoping they actually pull it off. but, theres a lot of logistics to work out. i mean, theres 200+ employees that work for franchises and it makes it all the harder when you’re in 2 different countries. where is home? is the business going to be split in 2? are employees going to travel as well? will they be paying employees in 2 different countries? the taxes and healthcare differences, it all sounds like an absolute HR nightmare...but its one hell of an exciting story- 3,837 replies

Isnt a popular complaint about the NFL (or every modern sport) that it’s too serious? Isn’t there a want for fun, bright colored, dancing mascot sports teams?? -

Is it really any worse than Packers, Browns, or Bills? Some really silly names become normal with time. The point i think, if those names came to be, is that they’re not traditional; it wont be the NFL. So its fitting their team names would reflect that. No big cats, dogs, birds, etc
