And Atlanta. I like how the NFC assignments preserved the pre-merger division alignments as much as they did, but the NFL Coastal becoming the NFC West made for a very confusing name.

Shoot, I forgot all about Atlanta! Right...Atlanta, Carolina, and New Orleans, all in the NFC West...with San Francisco and the Rams (who by the time Carolina came on board had relocated to St. Louis).

Pre-Texan NFL geography, I tell ya...

Teams should seek out stadium sponsors that sound like they could be the name of the stadium anyway without any sponsors

When the Cardinals were playing in University of Phoenix Stadium I initially assumed they were sharing it with a local NCAA team. I didn't realize it was just an online college that bought the naming rights.

Don't forget about Tampa Bay in the NFC Central for some reason.

Yet Dallas got to stay in the NFC East so they can get the $$$ from playing in major cities like NY, Philly, and DC.

Tampa Bay was in the AFC West 🤔 in 1976, but at least the Seahawks were initially in the NFC West where they are now.

Yeah, that NFL Coastal Division from 67-69 was pretty weird: LA, San Fran, Baltimore, Atlanta. 😐

Don't feel bad...for a spell there the league also had both New Orleans and Carolina in the NFC West, sooo...

During that time the NFC West consisted of

Atlanta (?)

New Orleans (?)

Carolina (??? They were placed in this division as an expansion team, why didn't the NFL put them in the NFC East and move the Cardinals to the NFC West)

St Louis (they moved from LA so this is forgivable)

San Francisco (actually in the west)

My understanding is that Bill Bidwill was 'encouraged' to leave for the NFC West, but he refused because he wanted his share of the gate receipts from playing teams in the big media markets (NY, Philly, DC, Dallas) twice a year. This was despite the fact that the Cardinals were the perennial doormats of the NFC East for 32 years...note how Bidwill didn't mention anything about possibly moving to an easier division to win more football games. 😁

After their last Super Bowl win the Niners basically fell off a cliff. Problem is, nobody really noticed at the time because they were still winning the division beating up on those sorry ass teams.

The NFL placed the Bucs in the AFC West and Seahawks NFC West and then changed their divisions and conferences the next year in order to allow the two teams to play each other twice and every other NFL team once in their first two years.

Commanders Stadium to be renamed to Northwest Stadium.

It is an 8 year deal, but this agreement does not mean they can stop the team from building a new stadium before the deal ends

Fans are going to mistake this so badly that Washington State University students will try to find Northwest Bank Stadium and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Famed career backup Peyton Manning would like a word

There's 2 starting QBs wearing 18 this season

Not necessarily the number itself, but the fact that he willingly switched from single digit to double digit.

Keep digging. Joe Montana, Tom Brady, and a whole host of others would like a word with you.

Missing the point, but to each their own

OK - make the point for me. First you tried to dunk on 18, then you said 'but he switched from single digit to double digit'.

And??

And??

I wasn’t “dunking” on 18? Mariota choosing to wear 18 feels like a submission of himself being a career backup. There was an entire discussion not that long ago on these boards about career backup QB numbers/worst QB numbers. While 18 wasn’t necessarily one of the “worst”, it certainly feels like it in this situation.

There are 14/32 starting QBs this season with double digit numbers, including the consensus top QB in the league and the #1 overall draft pick. And Kirk Cousins also went from #8 to #18, and he's a bonafide starting QB.

Of the 19 numbers available to starting QBs, 4 of them haven't won a super bowl: 1, 2, 6, and 19. And 40 super bowls have been won by double digit QBs, compared to 17 by single digits. https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/super-bowl-winning-quarterbacks-by-jersey-number/268733/

Even if you remove statistical outlier Tom Brady, it's still 33-17 double digits

The entire QB number debate on here is so incredibly dumb

This has to be the most pointless debate I've ever seen on one of these NFL threads.

I seriously don't care what number any NFL player wears, as long as it correctly indicates whether he's eligible to receive the ball.
