Survival79
D.C. to require private funding for new ballparkIf the law stands, baseball's likely response is to have the team play the 2005 season at Washington's RFK Stadium, where it would be known as the Nationals, while the commissioner's office reopens the search for a permanent home for the franchise. NJTank
If it gets built why shoudl it matter to MLB how it is funded? www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com

Mings
bye bye washington, hello vegas. as much as baseball would hate it. baseball would work in vegas, the owner would have tons of money from a casino (owner would most likely own a casino or 5) so it would be able to put down money for stadium and build a winner. Put that Vegas team in the NL west and then put a NL Central team (I say Pittsburgh) in the East. If the Nats move to Vegas, they have better build a retractable roof stadium. I saw, I came, I left. Mings
If they move to vegas, the owner would have more money than steinbrenner, and im sure that the public there would support a casino/hotel tax to help pay a little bit for it. its looking like we are going to get a hotel/restraunt/parking tax to help pay for the colts new stadium. they just have to announce the deal. the city already owns the land that its goin on. random
Its like i always say, the DC government is the King Midas of Crap, everything they touch turns into crap. This is the City that gave a Kid 4 years in prison for raping and murdering his 4 year old sister.Linda Cropp is a huge arsehole. She stands next to the mayor on the day the team is announced to get her stupid face on TV, then stabs an entrie city in the back. Good one, Miss Cropp.
DEAD!
I don't blame Linda Cropp for this. It's not like she does not want baseball in Washington. I do think some private financing should be in place and not just for Washington, but for any new stadium in any city. For too long taxpayers have to pay for these stadiums and with the escalating costs of these stadiums, public money can only go so far. I saw, I came, I left. random
Linda Cropp has every right to take the position she has, however, its hypocritcal and backstabbing to stand there with the mayor parading his idea around and then suddenly turn and say she wont support it without private money. When MLB gave the team to DC it was predicated on Linda Cropp's support which Mayor Williams thought was in the bag, when she turned her back on him, it all went to hell.I;m not chastising Judas Cropp for being against the plan, i am chastizing her for being two faced and going back on her wordHow cruel. We have been waiting for this team for 30+ -years, then we get it, but now its gonna go away again. thats just crap

pcgd
No offense to those in washington, but this is somewhat of a logo fanatic's dream. To possibly have multiple totally new packages for teams over the span of 2 years? Just awesome!I for one would love to see a team in Vegas. It really just makes too much sense. I'd be great to throw all my money away at the casino, then win some back and go to a ball game. Definatly be making a trip for a Cardinals game if they ever (or any team) ends up in Vegas. Shmee
I think the DC government is taking the correct position on this issue. MLB is basically asking the city to throw massive amounts of money at the new stadium, so that once it's built, they can throw even more massive amounts of money at the team. Lame.As for Vegas, I've been championing the city for a sports team since the Expos announced they were moving. Now, it seems even more likely that they will in fact get their team, as DC is having trouble securing a home for the club, and the Marlins have also begun talks of relocation as their new stadium plans are at a standstill.Should play out to be very interesting. random
Like I said, it doesnt piss me off that DC is taking this position, i expect from that bunch of idiots, what bothers me is that they made the deal thinking certain people were supporting it, then they changed their minds, meaning that the city got the team, only to see it leave. It sucks for the fans, especially the ones who have allready bought tickets. Our only hope is that they now go back to the table with Northern VA [who apperently was the 2nd choice] i think theres a little more sanity out here than in the city.DC deserves this damn team. Screw Vegas.

JamesCraven
That blood-lusting "YAHOO!" you hear in the backround was Peter "My area's too good for two franchises" Angelos heraing the news of a possible rumor about the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals franchise moving to Lost Wages.I said it before, and I'll say it once more. No right-minded major professional sports league - MLB, the NFL, the NBA or the NHL - will ever get a major professional sports franchise in Las Vegas as long as there is legalized gambling on professional sports. Ditto Atlantic City if they pass a sports gambling bill in the New Jersey State Legislature. "I better go take a long walk off a short pier or something."Some people on this bolard have told me to do just that.My "Ron Mexico" alias is "Jon Tobago".
