The Marlin Stadium Update Thread

This is a very tiny picture a member of MB.com found in Popular Mechanics of a model of the roof structure.

So far I like it. It is supposed to look like sails (the roof). But to me when it is open it resembles the Sydney Opera House somewhat. It's gonna be exciting when more renderings come out. This was probably a leak on HOK's part because these negotiations have been very secretive.

Thoughts?

Sorry for some reason I can't post the image, but there's the address if you are interested. I guess copy and paste.

Sorry

God, that's an ugly roof design. Hopefully more "spy shots" come out in the coming weeks and months so that we get a better look.

But for now, color me unimpressed.

Sorry for brining this thread up from the dead. I wanted to give everyone an update.

A bigger picture of the one I posted earlier has come out. But it appears this isn't the design that will be chosen. According to a source that has seen the front running design says it will be a Petco like park.

Sun Sentinel a few days ago:

Samson said the team is "on the cusp of announcing a local deal."

He said in the coming days the team, county and city plan to unveil a financing plan for a 38,000-seat stadium next to the Orange Bowl. County officials said they expect a deal to go before commissioners on Feb. 15, followed by a vote of city commissioners. Then all three parties can present the rebate proposal to the state.

I went to UM for four years, could they have picked a worse spot to put this stadium?

The Orange Bowl area is impossible to drive to, plus the Metro Rail doesn't come within a mile of the place. Those shuttle buses back there were horrible after Canes games.

Hopefully they have a good traffic plan or this is going to be a huge mistake.

That doesn't look anything like Petco.

So what will be in the left field corner? The docks? A boardwalk to the beach?

There are no docks or beach anywhere near where the stadium will be.  Its fairly close to a river, but it doesn't border the stadium property.

Lots of little houses in the area.

i heard that its supposed to be some kind of space station too. so that George steinbrenner can sign the top prospects on mars :P (he cut a deal with marlins management)

WEll maybe they could have a concourse lined with Cabanas selling concessions.

Seriously though, that stadium model reminds me of some of the China Olympics 2008 stadium concepts.
