Marlins cry over spilt milk

Published August 25, 2005, Chicago Something or another...

The Marlins batboy who accepted Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny's dare Sunday by trying to drink a gallon of milk in an hour without throwing up has been suspended for the next homestand by Florida for his actions, the Miami Herald reported Wednesday. The Marlins declined to comment on the unident-ified batboy's suspension, but Penny was angry about it. "It's kind of ridiculous that you get a 10-game suspension for steroids and a six-game suspension for milk," the ex-Marlin said. "It's ridiculous that they worry about stuff like that. It shows they [the Marlins organization] don't know anything about the game. That kind of stuff goes on everywhere. It didn't affect the way he worked, the way he did his job."

The resolution was a Milk Foundation or something offered him the $500 if he promised to drink 3 glasses of milk a day (the recomended amount) and a Minor League team down there offered to give him a "rehab" assignment while he was suspended.

Pretty ludicrous of a team to ban the kid 6 games....

Brad Penny's absolutely spot on with his quote about how you get 10 games for shooting 'roids and 6 for chugging a gallon of milk.

News flash, Brad...it ain't just the Marlins that are fluffed up on this...

It was the Ft. Meyers Miracle.

What do you expect from the Veecks? ^_^

I thought it sounded like them.

Him and his daughter are really a touching story. If you haven't read the SI article on the Veecks you should try and check it out.

It's not that hard to drink a gallon in an hour. Just 1 cup every 3 minutes and 45 seconds.

no it is really hard, I tried it with friends. You get to about halfway through that circle on the side of the jug and you feel like puking. If you go any faster than say one sip a minute after that you will most likely puke it all up.

It's not the drinking part that's difficult. It's keeping it down. The body can't digest so much lactose in a small amount of time.

If the kid knew any better he would've known that if you squeeze some lemon into the milk it cuts down on the lactose.

Penny just wanted to see the kid blow chunks. But I heard he was gonna pay the kid anyway.
