So, apparently I missed this one big time. I looked it up on the forums here but coldnt find anything.

The Sacramento River Cats unveiled a new family of logos this evening at a fashion show to benefit River Cats Independence Field at Spataro Restaurant and Bar in downtown Sacramento.

The new logos mark the first change or update in the River Cats official team mark since the team’s arrival in Sacramento in 2000.

“It was important to the River Cats that we create an event for this announcement that was reflective of our personality – fun, irreverent and community oriented,” said Alan Ledford, River Cats President, General Manager and COO from the event at Spataro. “We are constantly seeking to keep our brand fresh and the River Cats and Raley Field experience exciting. This is part of that ongoing effort.”

“Project Home Runway,” the fashion show event where the logos were unveiled, featured local designers and design students showing off their own unique River Cats themed clothing designs. The designer items modeled on the runway will be auctioned off online at www.rivercats.com beginning Friday, February 8th at 9:00 AM with all proceeds going to River Cats Independence Field. All designers will be honored and their designs displayed at a River Cats home game early in the 2007 season. The show also included local celebrities and media personalities modeling new items from the team’s On Deck Shop merchandise store. The River Cats also announced that the team will donate 10% of all purchases made at the On Deck Shop from today through March 28th to River Cats Independence Field.

Any media seeking additional versions of the logos should contact the River Cats Media Relations Department.

The River Cats open their 2007 home schedule on Thursday, March 29th when they host the Oakland A’s at Raley Field at 6:05 P.M. Individual tickets for the exhibition game and all 2007 regular season River Cats games at Raley field go on sale at 10 AM on March 3rd. Until then, tickets for the A’s Exhibition Game are currently available only through purchase of River Cats Full Season Tickets, 37-Game and 19-Game Mini Plans. 2007 River Cats Season Tickets or Mini Plans can be purchased at the Raley Field Ticket Office and by calling the River Cats Ticket Hotline at (916) 371-HITS. For more information about the 2007 River Cats season, visit www.rivercats.com. For information on other events at Raley Field, visit www.raleyfield.com.

OK, so thats Definately an upgrade.

Old Alt Hat

Black Hat with old RC Logo (which i cant find, uggh)

New Alt Hat

So definately the best of their new hats, but considering how tired im getting of "Brick" colored hats im not digging it. Plus, that old alt hat was a thing of beauty.

OK, so while ima hold off a bit till I see the full uniform, so far im very dissapointed. The new stuff looks way too generic to me, and it looks like theyre planning on ditching the sleeveless vests at home and only puttng Cats on the front of the jersey. And while ill be getting the new gear (Im quite the memorabilia whore, and on top of that, I have to upport my team), ill still sport my old stuff as much as I can. Its what they won their two PCL championships in and its as close to timeless as a five year old uni set can get :P

My grade so far, D-. Im really nervous to see the full look when they play the A's on the 29th.

Beat me to it. But for my money, this is the best logo in all of soft drinks (faux vintage aside):

 I like how tajmccall pulled that one out. But unfortunately I dont like the update. I hate that they took the bridge out of the logo. Its a staple of the Sacramento skyline and is part of one of the best views from any minor league park IMO. Im not too optimistic to see the jerseys either. I just hope they dont use that stupid Cats script and hope they keep the sleeveless look, but I doubt it. Ehhh, Minor League Baseball. Just wait till im rich and move a Pro team to Sac. Now thats gonna be one nice set. :P

oh, figured it'd be like hockey where minor teams where similar colours.

heh, it's kinda hit or miss. some of em do, some of em don't, also like hockey...on one extreme is the group of teams who use the parent club's name, or a variant. Most notable is the Braves' farm system, where all but their high A team (Myrtle Beach Pelicans, who also have a new look this year) wears the Braves uniform, with the main variation being a different cap logo (and in the cases of Richmond and Mississippi, the presence of red caps). Then again, the Braves own most of their affiliates. other similar teams are the Helena Brewers, Iowa Cubs, Memphis Redbirds, Staten Island Yankees and Pawtucket Red Sox, among many others.

at the other extreme, you got teams who look nothing like their parent club...the Lake Elsinore Storm come to mind (them boys that wear the hat with the eyes, in case you're wondering). they look nothing like the Padres, their parent club...heck, the Storm are a team that other teams try to look like (see Owlz, Orem). Others here are the Durham Bulls, Toledo Mud Hens, Montgomery Biscuits, Brooklyn Cyclones, Idaho Falls Chukars, and Tulsa Drillers (the best damn set in double A), among others. (one thing to keep in mind, the Milwaukee Admirals haven't borne any resemblance to the Predators in the history of them being affiliated)

Then in the middle, you got teams that use the same colors but their own name. I think the most well known example here is that of the Birmingham Barons, who wear the White Sox colors of silver and black, and don black pinstripes at home but otherwise do their own thing. Another one I can think of is the Portland Seadogs, originally they were the Marlins' AA team, and they wore black and teal. A few years back, when they became Red Sox affiliates, they switched to red and navy. Traditionally, the Syracuse Chiefs were (and once again are) among these teams.

The Florida State League (Class Hi-A minor league baseball) is a good example of the concept of having similar schemes to the parent club. Either teams are named for their parent club and use similar logos and color schemes to the parent club:

- Daytona Cubs

- Vero Beach Rays

- St. Lucie Mets

- Palm Beach Cardinals

- Dunedin Blue Jays

- Tampa Yankees

- Sarasota Reds

And if the teams are not named for the parent club, they tend to use similar colors of the parent club:

- Brevard County Manatees (Brewers affiliate, Nationals colors since thats where the Nats train)

- Jupiter Hammerheads (Marlins affiliate and colors)

- Clearwater Threshers (Phillies affiliate, primary team color is Phillies red)

- Lakeland Flying Tigers (Tigers affiliate and colors)

- Ft. Myers Miracle (Twins affiliate and colors)

IIRC most of the FSL teams are owned by major league teams, which helps explain the unoriginal appearances and how they can survive being watched by empty seats.

You are true. although the Daytona Cubs are not owned by the parent club, and yet they tend to be near the top of average attendance in the league every season.
