The Georgia Dome is getting a makeover....

For those familiar with the Georgia Dome, it's always had the exterior painted in that strange, trendy purple and teal scheme that made absolutely no sense to it's primary tenants.

They've smartened up: As I was working the Hawks game Friday, I noticed the Dome looked a bit different. They're finally painting the joint with the Falcons colors on the outside, with red and black and silver replacing that purple and teal. They also plan on replacing the green seats inside with Falcon-colored seats, amongst other remodelling jobs. I've no idea if this was planned, or if that tornado back in March sped up this process, but nonetheless, the Dome is looking more like a true home for the Falcons (and hopefully for UGA for the SEC Championship, as well)....

Either that, or they're finally updating from the Arizona Diamondbacks previous colors to their new ones.

This was definitely planned. The Falcons started on this immediately after last season was over, if not sooner. They announced it last October.

This is awesome. Though I doubt that this will deter the thousands of transplant fans that always show up out of nowhere for the games on Sunday, it'll still make the Dome feel like less of an entertainment venue and more of a nest for the Falcons with the paint job on the outside and the new seats on the inside. It's fantastic.

Kind of reminds me of when Space Mountain went from this

To this

Course, Space mountain went back to white, and I doubt the GaDome will go back to teal and purple.

Have to think that when the Georgia dome came on-line (1991?) the paint scheme was more a function of the times and less about its primary tenant. Teal of course was the "in" color back then, and it was paired with what I would call "terra cotta", (not purple) another popular color at the time. Of course, 15 years later it leaves the Dome looking like an avocado or goldenrod-colored 70's kitchen in a house with shag carpet.....

Definitely an improvement for the team, the stadium and the fans in the city.

BTW, are they going to re-paint the large terra-cotta colored vertically-oriented walls just below the white dome?

It is what it is.

Personally, I'd call that "Mauve" and "Turquoise", but that's just me...

^_^

It's a southwestern scheme...

I always think of Sedona, Arizona...which by the way, has a McDonald's with the world's only turquoise-arches...

Actually got my daughters hotcakes and sausage at that same location this past summer while on vacation.... ^_^

Pantone, I think you're right-- it does look more "mauve" than "terra cotta"

But it aint sure ain't purple...

It is what it is.

That looks much better. I always thought it was cool when you looked at it from far away, but an ugly scheme up close.

Forgive me for asking, but HedleyLamarr, what exactly do you do for the Hawks? I haven't been here that long.

Yes, it'll be painted black. Here's what the finished product will look like....

I like the way they will paint the "ring" around the Dome black.
