Yep the the 2010 Carling Cup final will be a repeat of the 1957 FA Cup final. Villa won that day. A year later, United would make the Cup Final again, only months after the Munich Disaster, so the 1957 Cup Final is quite a poignant affair, the last big game that the likes of Duncan Edwards etc played for United.

Just great, Vermalen apparently might have a broken fibula.

"Thomas Vermaelen we don't know. There will be an x-ray. He is on crutches and it is a fibula injury. We have to check tomorrow morning if it is just a nerve or a broken bone. Eduardo has a hamstring strain, a small one. But, for Sunday [Manchester United at home], he will be out."

A new style for the Saintsfan EPL weekly round up

Good times for:

Manchester United- Carling Cup final place secured, Arsenal beaten, Sir Alex must be happy!

Chelsea- January was supposed to be a worrying time for the Blues, but they more than got through it and now have Drogba and the other Africans back.

West Ham- Takeover complete, now 3 new forwards signed on deadline day, the Hammers are looking good for a second half of the season revival.

Bad times for:

P :cursing: h- Still in a financial mess, though did avoid having to sell off too many players in January. and 5 points behind every one else in the Premiership.

Hull City- Failed to win a crucial home fixture against fellow strugglers Wolves, they are going to be involved in the relegation fight right until the end.

Burnley- Coyle gone to local rivals, its tough to see quite whether they will be able to get enough points at home in order to make up for poor away form.

Loads of big games this weekend- Chelsea against Arsenal, the Merseyside Derby, but perhaps none more crucial than the Aston Villa vs Spurs game. Crucial match in the race for 4th place.

More Financial Trouble for Hicks/Gillette and Liverpool

Liverpool's pursuit of £100m in new investment is being carried out on the orders of the club's bankers, it emerged yesterday, and with the managing director admitting he cannot "guarantee" success, the genuine possibility is emerging of owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett being forced to sell up this summer.

Though it has been known for several months that MD Christian Purslow is seeking cash by selling equity to alleviate Liverpool's £237m debt, only yesterday, in the published minutes of a recent meeting between Purslow and the club's Spirit of Shankly (SoS) fans' group, bankers Wachovia and Royal Bank of Scotland's (RBS) express "requirement" of the new cash become clear.

The deadline for securing the £100m is July ? when Hicks and Gillett must refinance their debts once again. Fail to find the cash and the Americans will be out of Anfield after a rocky and largely unhappy three years on Merseyside. The consequences of that for Liverpool could be defining ones ? conceivably a fire sale of the club similar to the one which West Ham United have just undergone, with the attendant loss of money, elite players and status as a top side.

Thirteen matchdays left, and Bayer Leverkusen is still unbeaten over in Germany. They've never won the Bundesliga, and I'm not sure anyone's ever finished unbeaten in the Bundesliga. Meanwhile, they're tied with Bayern Munich, who has two losses.

Good times for

  • Chelsea, still rolling on. Looking like this years Champions-elect at the moment.
  • Liverpool- win in the Mersey derby and the Villa Spurs draw puts the reds in 4th
  • Manchester United- The only team that can stop Chelsea!

Bad times for

  • Arsenal- shown up against the best teams over the last 2 weeks. Lack an 'engine' against the big teams. Vital game against Liverpool coming up.
  • P :cursing: h- on there 4th owners of the season, and adrift at the bottom of the table. Look doomed.
  • John Terry- no longer England captain, following revelations about his personal life, never has there been more pressure on the guy's performances on the pitch.

You forgot to add 4th owner of the season who doesn't have any desire to hold the club long term, makes ya wonder how Chuck Culpepper is enjoying the season..(that's a pretty good book btw)

Last night Premier League action threw up some interesting results. Aresnal beat Liverpool in the biggest game of the night, but Chelsea lost to Everton and Villa and Man United played out a 1-1 draw. Spurs failed to take advantage, losing to Wolves for the second time this season. Man City were the Midweeks big winners, all to play for as far as 4th place is concerned.
