***Saintsfan's EPL weekly round up***

(plus bonus League 1 update!)

Performance of the week- Fulham winning 3-0 at home to Manchester United. Yes the United defence was patched up, but even still great result for the Cottagers.

The most bizarre sacking award- Sorry to keep on, but Mark Hughes had really done nothing wrong at City, and given that there are already rumors of Mourinho or Wenger being lined up by City, it doesn't sound as if Mancini is really a long term appointment. Its a decision that smacks of rich owners feeling like they need to do something, anything, to keep involved with the team!

I have a question, in post match interviews and press conferences, how often do NFL Head Coaches criticise officials decisions? Just about every manager in the Premier League seems to come out after a game and criticise referee's decisions. It becomes tiresome after a while.

***Saintsfans EPL power rankings***

1 Chelsea (2 vital Lampard penalties get Chelsea 4 points rather than 1)

2 Manchester United (This is a bit of a noone else is really stepping up to the mark at the moment)

3 Aston Villa (really good and improving team)

4 Arsenal (good win against Hull, but they don't seem as strong as in past seasons)

5 Tottenham Hotspur (lost to Wolves last week, but 2 very good wins in the past week show they are a coming force)

Bottom 5

20 Portsmouth (good win against Liverpool, but still bottom)

19 Bolton (match postponed tonight, but still struggling for consistency)

18 West Ham (draw against Chelsea, but still seem very lightweight)

17 Hull (Going to have to be careful not to plummet down the league in current form)

16 Wolves (Couple of good wins recently, but are they the real deal in the top division?)

**bonus League 1 update**

Southampton lose 1-0 away to leaders Leeds United, good reality check for the Saints, in an apparently close game.

Uh-oh... one of Belgium's top-flight clubs just bit the dust:

Excelsior Mouscron have been forced to withdraw from the Belgian football league, the financially-stricken club have confirmed.

The bankrupt club have forfeited their third match in a row, leading to an automatic exclusion, while all their players will soon be free agents.

Just a quick note to say that Edwin Van Der Sar has been granted indefinite leave from Manchester United to be with his wife as she recovers from a brain haemorrhage.

I'll post power rankings sometime before the weekend.

Its FA Cup 3rd Round weekend this weekend, so no Premier League fictures. Don't forget that the January transfer window is open. And with those 2 snippets of information its on with the

***Saintsfans EPL Power Rankings***

1 Chelsea (Somehow still atop the Premiership despite a few wobbles in December, still think they are the class of the league this year)

2 Manchester United (Survived a mini injury crisis at the centre back position and always get stronger in the 2nd half of the season)

3 Arsenal (Only other possible champions, though in my mind still a length behind the top 2)

4 Tottenham Hotspur (Consistent form in the first half of the season, the question is whether or not they can maintain that consistency)

5 Manchester City (In the late part of the Mark Hughes era the defence seemed a weakness, but in the first 2 games of the Mancini regime they haven't conceded a goal, if that defenseive form continues they could challenge for Champions League places)

Bottom 5

20 P :cursing: h (A team in serious crisis mode. No money for major changes in January, real clouds over the financial future of the club, and no real form on the pitch).

19 Hull City (Narrowly avoided relegation last season, will have to show the same fighting spirit again to remain in the top division)

18 Bolton Wanderers (The Cup break gives them a chance to sort out the managers position without it seriously denting league aspirations, but they are a team that need new leadership quickly|)

17 West Ham United (A more positive outlook than any team below them, but ownership question marks persist, and they haven't shown any consistency on the pitch)

16 Wolverhampton Wanderers (Lack quality, can they bring in something to help during the transfer window?)

How about Leeds United knocking off the mighty Manchester United 1-0 in FA Cup third-round action today?!

Great result for the Cup! Arsenal had a tough time overcoming West Ham as well, coming from behind! Leeds' reward for overcoming the Red Devils is a trip to Spurs. Arsenal visit Stoke in a tough draw for them.

Just a quick update, a few things have happened in the EPL since the last update.

Managerial shennanigans- Megson fired at Bolton, Owen Coyle moves from Burnley to Bolton. Burnley waiting to fill the Coyle vacancy.

Manchester City have only conceeded one goal since Mancini came in as manager.

Lots of financial/ownership issues flying around at the moment. Portsmouth, Manchester United, Liverpool all making headlines at the moment.

Not much going on in the transfer window- so far Landon Donovan has begun his Everton loan period, Patrick Vieira has joined Manchester City, not much else to report on the transfer front.

News from tonights FA Cup replay, and Liverpool's season goes from bad to worse. They lose 2-1 to Reading, after conceding a last minute penalty then losing in extra time. The Europa league is the only silverware left for Liverpool this season.

And the award for craziest game of the season goes to this Villa-Blackburn Carling Cup semi second leg. Blackburn score twice early to take the lead on aggregate. Villa score 2 before haltime, and 3 times in like 15 minutes to seemingly put the game out of reach, but Blackburn got 1 back. 6-3 with still a lot of time.

6-4 on the night, 7-4 on aggregate. The Villains are on there way to Wembley.

In far more important soccer news, Southampton go to the MK Dons and win 1-0 in the semi finals (technically Southern Area final) of the Football League Trophy, first leg.

In EPL news Liverpool beating Spurs 1-0 (Spurs never ever win at Anfield though!) And Arsenal have come from behind against Bolton and lead 4-2.
