The_Admiral
When the Coyotes win the Stanley Cup, will the other teams in the league get to hold 1/29 of a championship parade? I think that would be fair. The Flyers can take the Cup down like a block of Broad Street. The Isles can carry it down an LIE offramp. The Ducks didn't have a city to parade through when they won the Cup so they just had a party in the parking lot; this year they could just sorta have a party in a single parking space? Do all 29 team owners get to have their names engraved on the Cup, too? Won't that necessitate an entire ring? They'd have to attribute it to Karmoleonsilitch WangdolanMLSEWirtz. Or simply "Gary Bettman"? I'm just brainstorming here. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
ninersdd
Who would want a championship parade in Phoenix? EVERYTHING would melt! It would suck being the Yotes since they would have to wear their jerseys in 110 weather down there. I doubt they'd wear there Jerseys in this kind of weather. Nothing will melt and people will still show up.

Sodboy13
I can't join in on the Coyotes hate. I want them to succeed, league ownership be damned. When I started actively rooting for the Blackhawks' failure in the '90s, I first turned my fandom to the Whalers. That didn't last very long, so for whatever reason (perhaps the sheer absurdity of their look, I don't know,) I started following the Coyotes. Even had a Coyotes Starter jacket for several years. The Coyotes were the closest thing I had to a favorite NHL team for about a decade, until Dollar Bill died, and Rocky started making moves to bring some level of sanity to the Hawks. Ideally, for me, I'd get to see a Hawks-Coyotes conference final, with the Hawks coming out on top. Realistically, I'd like to see them win their first playoff series ever.I mean, is the Coyotes situation, in which the team is faring far better than anyone expected, worse than what happened with the Expos, in which league ownership intentionally plummeted the team into oblivion? Neither scenario is optimal, but I'd say this one is preferable. Lee.
I hate to interrupt the Great Coyote Reacharound, but the Canucks re-signed Ryan Kesler today to a 6-year, $30M deal.I'm thinking Burrows is kicking himself right now for the 4-year, $8M contract he signed a year ago. Neither scenario is optimal, but I'd say this one is preferable. The sabotage of the Expos was completely disgusting, but the artificial propping up of the Coyotes at all costs somehow manages to offend my sensibilities even more. I'm just not comfortable with the inevitable and stupid "SEE I TOLD YOU IT WOULD WOIK I TOLD YOU SO" speech that Bettman's going to give when his team wins, like he did when Carolina won (it doesn't really woik there) and when Anaheim won (not 100% sure it woiks there either as anything more than a niche of a niche). And admittedly selfishly, though it was heartbreaking that Selig salted the earth for baseball in French Canada, at least the Expos weren't in a position to stop my team from winning a championship. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

They have quietly locked up their stars for reasonable dollars. Luongo signed for a 5.5M cap hit, the Sedins are making 6M and are 100 point players, Burrows scored 30 goals and is only making 2M and Kesler is a 70 point player who will get better and is signed for 5M a season. FiddySicks
The Sharks better wake the :censored: up come playoff time. I don't care about the rest of the season at this point, they've already clinched a playoff spot and maybe not getting the first seed will take a bit of pressure off of them while at the same time motivating them to step it up. I just hope this slump is because the team is trying to be conservative and rest some of it's stars so they can fully recover from the olympic run. Dare to dream though, I'm sure. Plus, it'd be pretty nice to see the Yotes get the first seed only to go down in flames to the Dead Wings. If the Expos of hockey win the Stanley Cup, I don't think I'll ever be able to seriously watch hockey again. The_Admiral
I wouldn't call it that--but you will, since accusing people of "conspiracy theories" is a surefire way to paint them as loons--but they've obviously fostered a situation where people can wonder about the veracity of games contested with a team that is owned by the league with the intent of pumping up its low value to quickly flip said team at the end of the year. Some people would call the narrative of this season magical; I find it more suspicious than anything else. It's not markedly different than idle musing about the NBA's reluctance to foul out superstars in close games, or tennis tournaments having their umpires give big names the benefit of the doubt on line calls. Here you have a team that needs to get good in 2010 so everyone can get their money back and not wind up with egg on their faces after denying a substantial bid. Team's probably gonna lose around $20MM this year and there aren't available buyers who can finance the purchase without shaking down taxpayers (this rules out Reinsdorf and Ice Edge), so even if they win a championship I'm not sure what point's being proven, other than Dave Tippett is pretty good at running a trap if you're given the wherewithal to employ him. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
