BBTV
Wait - they're cheering and singing during the national anthem? Do they do that all the time, like a Chicago tradition? I'm not a fan of national anthems before sporting events, but I have to say that's pretty cool. Reminds me of when Alanis Morissette sang Oh Canada in Ottawa (or Calgary?) I read it came from a playoff game, I thought in 85...?This goes back well before '91, and not just in playoff games. I remember watching North Stars vs. Blackhawks regular-season games televised from the old Chicago Stadium in the '80s and they were cheering during the anthem there too. But I always thought the coolest thing of all about it was that they still used an actual pipe organ in the stadium and not just a glorified synthesizer. The '91 All-Star Game is just its most famous incarnation, partially because of the intensity of the crowd, but mostly because of the high-profile nature of the game and its timing. Sodboy13
I learned something today. Well, a couple things. First, the cheering of the anthem goes even further back than I thought, which makes that boob from Detroit's column decrying it even sillier. And second, Channel 13 in Indy looooooves it some blackouts. (I realize I'm probably the only one here who remembers the Dan Quayle "Favorite Son" dustup back in '88.) Viper
It looked like Leighton was screened by his own defender on that second goal.
STL FANATIC
What it looked like was that Leighton was in his own head after the first goal. Ben Eager shouldn't ever be on the ice for a goal-for let alone putting it in the back of the net. I'm gonna be sick.
