A specific quote really stuck out in my mind-

"Wilson noted a direction in the NHL in which teams have had great success with lower-paid goaltenders, most recently with Chicago winning the Stanley Cup with Antti Niemi."

So, let me get this straight- They're dumping their No. 1 goalie to try an untested (Nabby is a minute eater) goalie in hopes they win? Are they guessing here?

I think they're letting an overpriced commodity go- he may eat minutes but he's been there a long time and they've never sealed the deal- in favor of spending valuable cap money on other players instead.

So it's Nabakov's fault that guys like Marleau and Thorton couldn't score in the playoffs? I hate to break the news to you, but you can't win a hockey game when you have 0 goals. I saw this coming, so really this isn't news to anyone, except those who have been in a cave the past 3-5 years. I knew that the Sharks would cut ties with Nabakov if they didn't win the Cup. The scary thing for San Jose, is there is nothing out there better than Nabakov. Sure Tim Thomas, but he's not better, he's probably on the same level when he's on, but when was he on last?

That's not totally fair. That third round sweep was like Marleau's Last Stand. You can't say the guy didn't show up. The rest of the Sharks' star players didn't show up for that one, and their depth players didn't show up because the Sharks had no depth.

As a Sharks fan, I have to say, good riddance. Sure Marleau and Thornton haven'tbeen the super stars they should be, but the biggest reason San Jose falls apart in the playoffs every year is Nabokov.

Turco would be a nice fit in Edmonton. Deslauriers seems to be the future of goaltending in Edmonton, Turco would be a nice way to mentor the kid and get him mentally ready for that role.

There's no way Price is going to last the full season in Montreal. They may end up bringing in Nabakov, and Hueting Price to Hamilton.

Turco turns 35 in August, in time for the season. If they sign him for his age 35 season, will that be an immovable 35+ contract? I ask because the Oilers are already being burned on a 35+ goalie with Nikolai Khabibulin unlikely to make any serious contributions again while still counting against the cap for like two or three more years.

I'm going to guess he lands in Washington.

Actually, Theodore was told that we're going to go with Neuvirth/Varlamov next year. I can't say I'm thrilled with 2 very young goaltenders but they both know what theyre doing and Neuvirth specifically has won 2 Calder Cups so he knows how to win in pressure situations. I just can't see overpaying for Nabokov or Turco at this point in their careers.

Then Edmonton is the dumbest club in the league. They gave a 4-year deal to a 35-year old goalie? They deserve Pat Quinn.

36, actually, and one with a history of back problems.

I bet he ends up in Montreal.

Yeah, I been reading rumors of that...

I'm pretty sure the Habs will not go with Nabokov but will rather give a chance to Martin Biron.

It's official... Nabby to Flyers... For a 7th round pick. :cursing:

LOL. It is far from certain that he'll ever suit up for the Flyers.
