docrocket
^"supposed" to be the overhead view of a pistonAbsolutely not! I've worked with the designer of the logo and that was not intended at all. It's just an update to the classic logo. . . that was it.Then I've been mislead by several people. I've heard/read elsewhere that both the current logo and the classic logo were intended to look like pistons.I do not see a piston in there anywhere, no matter how outside the box I think, or how much imagination I use...Overhead view, looking "down" the piston chamber. Have you seen a piston chamber in real life?If I were a Freudian, I would say "Sometimes a basketball (with a blue outline) is just a basketball (with a blue outline)."We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread...back to the Sabres new away and third! FiddySicks
The Sabres new unis look really nice. I like the alt a lot, including the yellow nameplate. The numbers though, SUCK. The numbers though, SUCK.I think the stitching on the numbers is meant to replicate the felt numbers of days long past (pre-tackle twill or iron-on transfer). Back in the day when I played house league hockey (think before the Sabres joined the NHL), the numbers on our sweaters were made of felt. They would fall apart after about three trips to the washing machine. The extra cross-stitching would have kept the numbers affixed and intact far longer than the stitching around the exterior of the number. That being said, I can't say that I am 100% sold on the numbers either, but it is an interesting nod to the old days. Roger Clemente
Something weird to ponder about those numbers...Are those blue lines actually lines of stitches with blue threads? I presume so, but, if so, how will that translate to the Edge replica jerseys where every different color in those screen-printed numbers is outlined with a fake V-stitching pattern that's a shade darker than the number itself? Will they just draw lines of interconnected V's all over the numbers? Or will they just draw the plain blue lines without any sort of V-stitching overlaying it?IMO, The cross-stitching is just too weird for me. I have seen examples of it in vintage photographs and such, but in each case, the stitching was the same color as the number itself, so it wasn't so distracting. As is the yellow nameplate. Other than those, the jersey is great. The new road jersey would be an A+ if they did three things. 1) Added blue cuffs. 2) made the blue stripes on the sleeves and torso a bit thicker (or even make it the middle stripe of the pattern) just to make it a it more noticeable. 3) Make that pipe that goes around the armpits on the front blue instead of silver. Otherwise, I give it a B. Follow me on Twitter if you care: @Animal_Clans.My opinion may or may not be the same as yours. The choice is up to you. IceCap
Those numbers suck. The nameplates? I can take or leave. All in all the Buffalo alternates look better in person. The numbers really hold the look down, however. The home and road set is still awesome though. Oh, and loogodude needs to stop reaching here. The Panthers logo has nothing to do with the outlines of North and South Carolina. And yes, I may be Canadian, but I could identify both of those states by shape. Gothamite
I'm intrigued by the numbers, if only because the Sabres have found a throwback look that nobody's tried yet. Don't like the gold nameplate at all, though.Curious to see what they look like in person. I work a half-dozen blocks from the pathetic NHL store, maybe I'll bike over there today. And yes, I may be Canadian, but I could identify both of those states by shape.I'm not reaching for anything. I believe that it was modeled after the outline of those states, and many other people do too. If you don't want to believe that then that's fine. I'm not here to convert people. And besides, NO ONE here knows unless they have directly contacted the designer about it. WIZARDS ORIOLES CAPITALS RAVENS UNITED
Gothamite
Yes, you're reaching. You may believe whatever you choose to believe, but you'll take some ribbing for it if that belief appears to be rooted more in wishful thinking than in reality. By your standard, we don't know that the Panthers logo wasn't modeled after the designer's grandmother, unless we ask him. That's about as likely, given the gymnastics required to find the Carolinas in the logo. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. As I mentioned before (in the post right above yours no less), there are many other people out there who believe that's what the logo is (at least partially) modeled after. And it's not wishful thinking. I honestly wouldn't give a if that team ceased to exist tomorrow. I'm just saying what I think the logo is at least partially based off of. But I guess you "rib" away anyway.Find a few other people who believe that the logo was modeled after the designer's grandmother, and I would give more credibility to that idea. I wouldn't rule it out entirely. Crazy and strange things have been done in the history of logo design.
