What is this the 28th all time? Second this year! Has that ever happened?

Yeah two years ago. Dallas "Don't Step on the Mound" Braden and Roy Halladay with a strike zone that would have given Nolan Ryan 40 career no-hitters.

My mistake 22nd I just heard. That makes it more amazing.

And yes I do remember that happening now that you mention it.

Wow. I'm absolutely speechless. I've been wanting to see a no hitter/perfect game all the way through all of my life. Ive seen conclusions of them, but never a full game. Been close a few times, but hits in the 8th or 9th broke them up. Seeing anyone throw a perfect game would've been cool, but to see my favorite team do it is even more special. I'm absolutely ecstatic right now. It was such a blowout that I didn't even realize that Cain was perfect till after the 6th. After that I was pretty much a nervous wreck till the final out. Amazing game for Matt Cain, and by far the most dominating all around performance I've ever seen in a baseball game. A season high in hits for the Giants, ten runs, season high in K's for Cain, and a perfect game.

Now to celebrate!

Am I just a jealous fan if I just don't go crazy over these? I mean I should, right? This might be the most dominant pitching performance of all time, but I'm just not that excited.

There have now been three seasons featuring two perfect games. One was 1880. The other two were 2010 & 2012.

We know that in 2010 there should have actually been three, though we of course can't count it.

In the past three years there have been 5 perfect games. That's 23% of all perfect games! In the past four years, there have been 6 perfect games. That's 27%!

Not to mention there's been 10 OTHER no-hitters in that time frame as well.

And every time there's even a chance at a no-hitter...say through 5 or 6 innings, there's multiple tweets and alerts and break-ins about them. It's no wonder some of us may have become numb to this stuff.

Again, I can step back and recognize that a perfect game is a great achievement, and that this one in particular might have been the greatest one of them all. But my natural response just isn't excitement anymore.

I think my jealousy probably does play a role, though. The Cardinals have had a couple of no-hitters thrown in my life time. One of them I know I didn't see live, the other I can't remember. Either way I don't have vivid memories. I'd really like to see one. So being honest, I think that plays a role. But I also think the other stuff is a big factor, too.

I'd just be more happy about this had we not just had two no hitters in the last two weeks...seriously can NL batters just not hit?

But hey this was a perfect game, and an absolutely dominating one on all sides. That sets it apart. Congrats to the Giants ace Matt Cain
