VictoriaGooner
So Soccer Aid 2014 is just around the corner, four days prior to the kickoff the World Cup."The wait is over. On 8 June, Soccer Aid 2014 will bring together football legends, supporters and celebrities for a football match to help save and change children's lives around the world. The two Soccer Aid teams, made up of Hollywood A-listers, football legends and some of the UK’s most famous faces, will battle it out for the prestigious Soccer Aid trophy. Tickets for the match at Old Trafford cost from just £20 for adults and £5 for children under 16 and over 65s. All profits from ticket sales go to UNICEF."Usually a good sight to see in a England football legends v Hollywood with money raised goes to UNICEF. It's been shown live on ITV plus other nefarious ways There were some nice goals scored plus good laughs too. Here's hoping Louis Tomlinson, if he plays in the match, gets two footed tackled again...http://www.unicef.org.uk/soccer-aid/ THE SHORT FUSE | ARSEBLOG

VictoriaGooner
I still think the charity match is good fun and for a really good cause. In other news, Arsenal's keeper Lukasz Fabianski signs a four-year deal to join Swansea City when his contract expires end of June. There was aleady speculation that he wouldn't re-sign with the club back in February. Best of luck to him and his push being a number one keeper for Swansea.http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27616469 THE SHORT FUSE | ARSEBLOG
marble21
I know it's for charity but the match is boring as watching paint dry.I love Soccer Aid. Sure, the match itself is terrible but you do get moments like these. My childhood hero Teddy Sheringham crunching TV chef Gordon Ramsay. Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno lobbing David Seaman (LOL). Film star Woody Harrelson (who was an absolute passenger during the game) scoring the winning penalty against the equally terrible TV/Radio presenter Jamie Theakston in front of 65,000 fans.[link] [/link] UBI FIDES IBI LUX ET ROBUR

VictoriaGooner
On another topic and big news for my local football club, Victoria Highlanders FC of the USL Premier Developmental League. My club announced today that they will be playing a friendly with SPFL League One champions Rangers on July 21 at Centennial Stadium here in Victoria, BC. Rangers are going on a four stop summer pre-season tour through out Canada and United States (Ventura County - Ventura, CA; Sacramento Republic FC - Sacramento, CA; Victoria Highlanders FC - Victoria, BC; and another unannounced Canadian destination). This is huge news for my club as this will be the biggest football club to ever play in Victoria and biggest sporting event to Vancouver Island since the city hosted three matches of the 2007 FIFA U20 World Cup. Massive news! And yes I already bought my tickets to the match 10 minutes after they announced that they were for sale at the press conference (and yes I was at the press conference in my club colors...)Can't wait for July 21! VictoriaGooner
Pele has been professing Edinho's innocence since 2006 but I don't know what he will do now. But Pele will find a way through this low point. His native country is hosting the World Cup and he is the king of football THE SHORT FUSE | ARSEBLOG
VictoriaGooner
Frank Lampard announces that he will leave Chelsea after 13 years with the club. He says that there are 16 (yes he said 16) clubs that are in the running for his services. Who wants an overaged, less mobile midfielder who is in his twilight years? I know the MLS especially NYCFC THE SHORT FUSE | ARSEBLOG

I know the MLS especially NYCFC As a Blues fan, I'm glad that he won't be coming back to Chelsea. He will go down as one of the club's greatest but he is not the player he once was. It's a shame that he is possibly going to an MLS team that I am predisposed to hate...after all they have ties with Man City and the Damn Yankees. VictoriaGooner
There is always a time for a player to leave a club they have been a servant and loyal to. Lampard, Cole and that waste of an individual Terry have all past their best before date at Chelsea. Time to get rid of the old guard and in with the youth. IanC
Pele is only classed as the King of football because him image has been kept squeaky clean by Fifa and because he scored so many goals against weaker league clubs in Brazil and alot of exhibition matches which make his record look good. The Brazilian public even reckon Garrincha was a better player than Pele. There have been better players in the controversial Maradona who for me was the more skilful than Pele. Di Stefano has been touted as the most complete footballer of all time by the media and other stars. Johan Cruijff was again more skillful than Pele as was Platini and George Best who all proved that in the European leagues which was far more difficult than doing it in sub standard leagues at the time like the Brazil league or the NASL for the Cosmos. VictoriaGooner
I'm sorry but Platini was not better than Pele. I could say George Best, Maradona, even Cruijff. But not Platini. THE SHORT FUSE | ARSEBLOG
IanC
I disagree. The quick feet, the positioning and also considered one of the best passers in football history as well as one of the best free kick specialists and finishers. Before Messi and Ronaldo he was the first player to win European footballer of the year three times in a row. As I said before Pele did his best work in sub standard leagues against below par opponents while the others I mentioned did the brilliance in the top leagues in Europe. Platini had more to his game and was more an all rounder than Pele but people get sucked in by media perception and the spin about Pele.
