hawk36
This concept is probably too simple BUT I'd hope for something clean like this incorporating the stripes of both USA and Canadian flags as well as the swooshes of the MLS Cup logo. Something that can adapt to each team's colors. Design Hovie Studios

Gothamite
Possibly on the recolors, but about that particular design you're right - it's far too simple. Looks more like a gas station or pharmaceutical company than a sports league. And that's a terrible M to use as a leading initial - you need one with vertical sides to anchor the left of the design, not that upside-down W. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! IceCap
Feel it's a little different since it's called the British Premier League which encompasses both England and Wales, as well as Scotland no?No.It's the Premier League. Full stop. When you see a "B" included that's somebody contractually obligated to include the sponsor name "Barclays Premier League". But it's the English top league, run by England's Football Association.Scotland has it's own league. So does Wales, although they have a couple teams which play in the English league as a throwback to days before the Welsh league.Teams are promoted to the Premier League (and relegated back down again) from the (English) Football League, not the Scottish or Welsh leagues. But there's nothing British about the Premiership. They're English all the way, and the lion serves them well. What if a few top Scottish teams make the jump to the Premier League, as has been an ongoing rumour for some time now? At that point the Premier League would have teams from three of the four constitute nations of the United Kingdom. Would that be enough to consider it the top league for all of Britain? Gothamite
That's fan wishful thinking - won't happen, since it'll kill the Scottish Premiership. But if that were to happen, then yes. The Premier League could probably be considered the top league for all of Great Britain. There should probably be some Scottish FA involvement as well, to keep it being run entirely by the English. But until then... The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
Gothamite
It's a shame, because the US already has a fantastic soccer league logo in use.I doubt that MLS will be able to top that, whatever they end up with. kewp80
What if the MLS went the rout of most other leagues around the world and added a sponsor to their name/logo? Gothamite
Shirt sponsorships are one thing, but I think that would be damaging to the league. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
The_Admiral
I hear/see English Premier League and EPL, but never British Premier League. I'd support the change to British if they included Scottish teams, but they shouldn't and won't. Wales has been England's bitch for centuries, so whatever. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Gothamite
The one place you do hear it is on television broadcasts (which is the entire point). Considering that's where MLS is increasing its exposure right now, I'd rather they build their own brand than anyone else's. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. I actually use the font, Century Gothic, a lot in my work. Anyway, hope they come up with something we're not ashamed to have on our fan jerseys. Gothamite
It's a good font in general, I just think a straight-sided M would balance the S a little better in this instance. Plus would leave plenty of that negative space you mentioned. But agreed. Really hope they don't screw it up. The current logo isn't awful, let's hope at the very least the new one isn't either. The_Admiral
There's a really weird "rooting for commerce" thing going on here. Hoping that the league sells the rights to its own name is the kind of thing no American sports fan should ever be doing. Weren't there MLSies who wanted teams to wear and sell sponsored shirts, too? ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The_Admiral
The capitalism-vs-socialism paradox between North American and European leagues fascinates me. Sports are kind of a cultural/economic Opposite Day on both continents. There's the obvious part about how we encourage revenue sharing and competitive balance while European teams hoard money for themselves and throw one another to the dogs, but there's also the part about how the great American melting pot and engine of global commerce generally restricts itself to domestic ownership while dear old England has resigned itself to being a playground for filthy rich (emphasis on filthy) Russian mobsters and Arab oil sheikhs. Even the goddamned NHL has drawn a hard line at the prospect of Russian ownership. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
