Gothamite
I posted this in the mega thread, but it deserves its own conversation. It might be time to say goodbye to the boot and ball.Next month, MLS will reportedly unveil a new logo for 2015 (just in time for the NYCFC shirts to be unveiled).https://twitter.com/brianstraus/status/502538093149159424There's an image floating around the web, don't know if this is legit or not:I won't miss the old one, but I do hope they keep the color scheme in any case. We don't need another RWB logo in this country.
-kj
I pretty sure there's no way that mockup is legit in any way.I'll be sad to see it go, myself, as I like it. I definitely don't want to see a r/w/b player silhouette logo.
Germanshepherd
such a shame, I really liked the boot and ball
the admiral
The logo they have now is good, it just needs some simplification on par with the MLB and NBA logos it's modeled after. Lose the sky blue, because how can the horizon be at a 45-degree angle on a soccer field? Lose the grey and the blue/green details on the ball. Lose "Major League Soccer" or "MLS," you can't have both. But if you stripped that down to black, white, and green (arguably the three colors that come to mind in soccer; an international game doesn't need red/white/blue), you'd have a perfect logo. Gothamite
Other than the obvious "foot+ball" construction, I was never a huge fan. I did prefer the original version, before they went crazy with the black Sharpie:That's much like Admiral posted while I was looking for images. I rather like that mockup, although I agree it's probably not legit. I love the new MLS Cup trophy, and the more they use it the better.
the admiral
Yeah, that's better. This what I had in mind:
Gothamite
I dunno. I can't get my head around just green and black. Maybe if it was a lighter shade, more contrast with the black.Your font is a huge upgrade, though.
the admiral
Maybe I should use Victory Green. And that's Gotham Black on the lettering. You're right to like it!
Burmy
Personally, I think it's time MLS gets a title sponsor...I'm opposed to it in all other American sports, but association football is one for which I make an exception.
AJM
Hopefully that mockup isn't the end product but I'm glad to see an upgrade (*fingers crossed) to the boot and ball.I could also see a sponsor component..Either way it can't be worse than the Bundesliga logo. GFB
And that's Gotham Black on the lettering. You're right to like it!I love the Gotham family as much as anyone, but one of the first rules of typography is to never stretch or squeeze a font. I get that it's just a quick mockup, but I'm cringing inside.
GFB
Also, the MLS has been doing the best brand work over the last 10 years than any of the other 4 major sports. I highly doubt they will take already designed elements from two separate logos and forcibly smash them into one design.

Gothamite
Indeed. With the Crew (finally) changing, the Revs are the only club holding on to the league's 90s mistakes.
1clkgtramg
Is it bad that I want the Revs logo to stay? Lol its so bad but now theres a sense of nostalgia and history behind it that rest don't hold. Its a horrible logo but what if it becomes sonething special down the road? Yea who am I kidding, thats not gonna happen!
the admiral
That's precisely what happened with their co-tenant's crappy little brushstroke of a logo, so dare to dream.
Gothamite
Presuming you're not talking about UMass, there's a huge difference there. The Patriots' logo became untouchable after they were the dominant team in football for a decade. There's little reason to believe the (ugh) Revolution can be a dominant team in MLS for even a single weekend.
kewp80
Bout time they did a complete overhaul IMO. Like you guys said it's time to get away from the 90's/early 2000's era of the MLS. Hell I wouldn't be opposed if they added a sponsor like you see in pretty much every other leagues in the world. Not really feeling the use of the trophy imagery however. I saw leave that for the actual playoff or cup game logo.

Just tilt the camera, it gives you a more dramatic look. It's why the MLS logo works better than all the major sports logos out there. It's not the standard stiff vertical or horizontal logo. As far as needing updating, yes it does, but do it in a way that is professional.
