Game-worn jersey collecting

Does anyone else collect game-worn jerseys or other memorabilia? Since I started collecting hockey jerseys a little more than five years ago, I've collected 150 of them, and eight of those are either game-worn or game-issued. The remainder is 19 team-issued jerseys, 31 retail authentics and 92 replicas.

Prince Edward Island Rocket Lucas McKinley red Reebok game worn

The timeframe for the McKinley jersey is unknown since the LOA doesn't indicate when it was worn.

 

Also, ignore the black spot in the top center of most of the photos. That was a spot on the lens of my old phone's camera.

Nice collection. I can't even think about getting into that part of collecting because it's too pricey( although a game-worn Gretzky would be a conversation piece) right over the cardboard box I'll be living in.

If you want an inexpensive option and don’t mind buying from lesser-known players, the MeiGray Group sells cheap game-worns at auction on eBay with the starting bids at $99 plus shipping.

i have a few game worn from my high school, and some from Southwest Missouri State that i bough at their "garage sale" back in 2005 when they 

changed their name to Missouri State.

I used to have about 25 game worn hockey and baseball (both minors and NCAA) jerseys. The most I spent on a jersey was about $300. Most came through eBay or another collectors website. No rhyme or reason to any specific player, I just wanted to have one from each team in New England, or with a logo I liked. I never got them autographed, since I wore them to games and sometimes got food or beverages spilled on them.

 

I ended up selling most of them back on eBay, after the collection got bigger than the available space I had for them. Still have about 5 or 6.

My favorite game worn is a Colby Armstrong Thrashers I have photomatched to a fight he had with Ruslan Fedotenko. I got to show it to him once and he was impressed that someone wanted it for their collection. He said he had a bunch of autographed Thrashers jerseys that he couldn't even give away to charity auctions or raffles or whatever.

I don't have a lot of game worn stuff, but I do have some San Diego State jerseys, and practice gear from their annual garage sale, and I have a Shigitoshi Hasegawa Anaheim Angels jersey from 2001 that has the American Flag patch behind the neck over the MLB patch for 9/11.

I got a Victoria Salmon Kings from Meigray for like $150 that I wear whenever because a blank crappy replica would have cost me $125 when you could actually buy them

Interesting that this should pop up today, as I just went to the Sacramento RiverCats equipment sale yesterday. I picked up a few game worn caps that were all $5. It’s hard to get a lot of minor league caps in the old USA made poly, and I saw a few that I had never seen for sale at the retail level before (mostly the specialty caps, such as the Copa Caps and the 4th of July and Memorial Day caps). 

 

I also have a few RiverCats game worn jerseys from over the years. Haven’t picked up a jersey from them in quite some time, though. 

 

 

I also have a metric ton of Sacramento Republic game worn or sideline gear I’ve picked up over the last few years while working for the team. That’s probably my favorite stuff that I have because I’ve gotten most of it from either the equipment staff as a thank you for helping them out, or from the players directly.
