Now, they may come to an agreed settlement, but if you retire, you are leaving your contract and therefore are no longer entitled to any remaining money owed. Why would the team owe money to someone who has willingly decided to not see out the duration of the contract and stop playing altogether? Prince Fielder and David Wright both stopped playing, but didn't officially retire right away so they could still collect on the contract.

They can, if they want to, by picking the best options from the Mountain West and AAC. San Diego State, Fresno State, SMU, Memphis and Tulane immediately come to mind. Boise State purely for football reasons could, too. Maybe Rice to get Dallas AND Houston in the conference. It won't be a power conference anymore, and some of these schools are ripe for the picking by the power 4 at anytime, but it would at least salvage what's left as best as possible. But I'm not sure if those who ARE a real possibility of eventually landing in a power conference, would leave one group of 5/6 conference for another.

No. Umpires have no authority to issue fines. Only the commissioners office can issue fines in regards to player behavior (In the instance of ejections. Teams can fine players for reasons as well). The announcers were probably just using conjecture.

Doesn't matter. It's the Top 6 ranked conference champions. There are only going to be 4 power conferences which means only 4 power conference champions and 2 from the Group of 5/6. Are you arguing it's unfair to the power conferences? Because more than likely, all or the majority of the top 6 ranked non-champions will still be from the power 4. The Group of 5 are just now guaranteed 2/12 instead of 1/12. I think there's a distinct difference, thus why I favor a new division level for the power conferences, but as the FBS stands, this is a pretty fair set-up.

Conference 4? You (currently) have Power 5 and Group of 5 as there are 10 conferences in FBS. With the loss of the Pac's "Power" status, you either go to Power 4/Group of 6 or Power 4/Group of 5 if the Pac dissolves altogether.

I'd say the opposite. It washes everything out far more than it even does on the purple jersey. The white set only further confirms the theory that the orange ball of 2 or 3 is the way to go. I can go with either one, honestly. Just as long as the ball is orange.

The College Football Playoff, honestly, shouldn't be affected. When it goes to 12, it will be the top 6 ranked conference champions (regardless of power/group of 5 status) plus the top 6 ranked non-Champion schools. If anything, it gives the Group of 5 (6) a guaranteed TWO spots in the playoff instead of just one, as now there will only be four power conferences for 6 champions spots instead of 5 for 6.
