  1. Canucks sent out that the identity of their farm team will be announced July 9th, hinting that they'll be wearing green.
  2. I don't understand the sentiment that this will somehow destroy the league's aesthetics. Nothing is stopping that already. Teams put out bad looks all the time. Having the option for an accurate throwback or a different helmet for your alternate changes nothing.
  3. I deliberately didn't include the NBA, but we'll see. Lol yeah and lets ask my local junior B hockey club while we're at it.
  4. I do think there is a difference between a helmet logo and a sweater logo. A helmet is a definitively secondary piece of equipment. A jersey is the emblematic of the team/sport. Its the hockey equivalent of a football player's helmet or baseball player's cap. In regards to ads being plastered all over european teams uniforms, I honestly don't think thats a real comparable. They treat uniforms with a lot less reverence in there than in North America, its a different culture. Not only are they far more likely to embrace ads on the uniform (I have British friends who get excited when a cool company/logo graces their team's soccer kits) but the uniforms themselves don't seem as important. You've got teams 100+ year old teams like Chelsea that change it up all the time, as long as its blue it doesn't matter. Its a yearly thing. Meanwhile the Bruins change their socks from gold to black and a bunch of people get irate about it. Colorado changes their secondary equipment colour and it sparks endless debate. This isn't just a thing for sports logos weirdos like us, either. I've seen Maple Leafs fans argue in circles about whether they should have one hem stripe or two. To a lot of people sticking a logo on the Montreal Canadiens or Chicago Blackhawks sweaters is nothing short of sacrilege. I do believe the NHL will go ahead with it and I do believe its whats in the best interest of their bottom line. And I don't believe it will cause people to stop watching, but I also think they'll see a very large drop in jersey sales if they start sticking ads on them.
  5. The thing about the Jets is they already have their city rival in the Giants using an NY as a helmet logo, and this is with a much harder to depict name. "Jets" has the potential for something strong, dynamic and creative, yet they opt for a wordblock.
  6. The Edmonton Oilers current home and road sets are the best they've ever looked. I think if they didn't have the Gretzky years, the royal blue uniforms would not be as popular as they are now. I also think the copper and navy was a really underrated colour scheme as well. While I'm very much not an Oilers fan, I understand why many of them yearn for the team to return to the Gretzky jerseys full time, but I think the league as a whole looks better with them in orange.
  7. I've never been but generally speaking that tends to be what happens when a city sees a rapid expansion in population/economy/infrastructure etc.
  8. If it isn't a "traditional" look, ie a plain green jersey with perhaps a single sleeve stripe and college block font its garbage. Unless of course you were wearing an overly designed hot mess for a long time before that, then simplifying is bad. Thats the attitude towards football uniforms by a lot of users on this board. Personally I don't hate the Jets new look either, though I honestly think they should have just taken their old uniforms and brightened the green. Maybe throw in a green helmet too and you've got a great look.
  9. They better brighten the green then. Say what you want about the current look but at the very least the green isn't that awful drab shade they were wearing before.
  10. These factors seem a lot more important in baseball than in any other sport too. Football, it doesn't matter if its -30 in a concrete block, you're there to watch your team brutally slug it out with their opponent. Stadiums a half hour away? No problem, you're tailgating anyway. In baseball though it seems like the stadium experience is first and the game second. Thats not to say there aren't diehard fans who desperately want their team to win, but going to a baseball game seems like the priority is more about hanging out on a warm summer evening. Drink some beers, try the wacky stadium food etc. If the park is a dump and inconvenient to get to, there are lots of other ways to spend your time. Its a lot harder to attract fans with a bad stadium experience in baseball than in other sports.
  11. I obviously know nothing about the Bay Area so I'm talking out of my rear here, but I got the sense that Oakland is a lot like Buffalo. A formerly prominent city that attracted teams out of the prospect of future growth that never quite materialized like it was envisioned.
  12. Honestly I get late 90s/Early 00s Canucks vibes. Not an exact match obviously but the overall look of the jersey with the navy and lighter blues/silver, thing red lines I think make them look quite similar.
  13. I actually like it. It has a classic feel that reminds me of an old minor hockey club or junior team from decades past. And when you consider the terrible logo their parent club has been using forever thanks to tradition, it fits.
  14. I was talking about the league as a whole, I hope there's changes to the collar cut for every team saddled with a toilet seat around their neck.
  15. I really hope they fix the collars.
  16. The Canucks are officially moving their farm team to Abbotsford. I'm sorry to see Utica left behind, as its a great hockey town, but excited for the farm club to be closer to home. https://www.nhl.com/canucks/news/vancouver-canucks-confirm-intent-to-move-ahl-franchise-to-abbotsford/c-324348872 The Canucks confirmed the team will be getting a rebrand/new nickname, so thats exciting. I'm hoping for the team to lean heavily into the Johnny Canuck identity for this. The Fraser Valley is a much more rural part of the province and an identity centered around Lumberjacks/Trappers/Woodsmen etc would fit really well. After the bland Vancouver Warriors identity reveal though I'm not too optimistic.
  17. I think it has the potential, certainly. But at the same time I think they can build a strong brand with the centurion as well. History is important, but its still a disjointed history. I don't look at the current Senators and think of the historical Senators any more than when I look at the Washington Nationals I think of the Washington Senators. I think a strong identity could be built from the =O=, but the modern team is far more integrated with the Roman aesthetic. I'd honestly be fine with them going in either direction, I just wish they used the updated Roman head.
  18. This is where we disagree. I think the artwork of the comic is as much, if not the most important aspect of it. If it were a novel and you liked the cover art sure, but the distinguishing feature of comics is the art.
  19. So buying a painting you like is just buying it for the branding?
  20. To me saying buying a comic book because of the art is buying it for the "branding" is the equivalent of saying buying a soft drink for the taste as opposed to the packaging or a sweater for the comfort as opposed to the design is buying it for the "branding". The "branding" of a comic book is the art, the typeface, etc. And since those are the features that distinguish comic books from other media I would argue you can't separate the branding from the consumption of the product itself in the same way you can with things like a soft drink because you like the label. And since the entire point of this site is aesthetics, the delineation between a product sold for its aesthetic appeal and its "branding" is next to impossible to tell.
  21. I'm not sure if comics really count, as the art is arguably the biggest part of the product, not really the "branding".
  22. Not strictly uniform related but this is the first year within memory that I've actually liked the crop of draft hats the NFL released. They're not the greatest designs ever but they're light-years better than any draft hats they've had for close to a decade
  23. Keep it, the shape of the crest actually works really well with the Arrowhead, and while MLS is still number 5 out of the big 4, it is a KC team. Plus otherwise you'd only have two teams to mashup.
  24. On the topic of unpopular opinions about the Cowboys, they should wear blue at home. I know tradition and all that and blah blah but I think their blue set is a lot stronger than their white and yet its never worn.
