I like it too, just pair the existing helmet with some modern retro uniforms that evoke the throwbacks and you have a winner. I've also heard it called 'Cruise Ship logo" and "Toothpaste dolphin"

I can’t speak for the rest of the teams with increases, but the Rays did offer a select amount of $10 tickets (pre tax/fees) for all games. That may have assisted in the increase in attendance
