  1. I see his point. I really do. But I realize that's the minority view, and it's certainly not something I feel strongly enough to argue about. It's a strange hill to die on. I remember seeing Randall Cunningham jerseys in the current midnight green and thinking how silly that was. The dead player argument is an interesting one - since dead guys aren't in MLBPA, I wonder where any proceeds go. If it goes to their families / estates / designated charities, then cool.
  2. Mello-era colors with the alt wordmark from the navy jersey could have been their forever jersey. The current ones are nice enough, but not "strong" for lack of a better term. I'd find it hard to be inspired while wearing navy and dark red. It looks fine on merch, but I think the bright light blue and yellow makes for a better sports uniform.
  3. Sign me up for a Puddin' Head Jones Phillies jersey. Hell, I'll preorder it RIGHT Fn NOW.
  4. I thought their whole gimmick was reducing seams, not adding more and making them more prominent. What was the problem that this new template was designed to solve?
  5. So I don't know how all this stuff works, but apparently the Eagles get a 4th-round compensatory pick if D'Andre Swift leaves after this year. They traded a 4th for him. So it's basically a free player - they just had to put down a deposit that they'll get back next year.
  6. Yeah, that's definitely concerning, but he was specifically cleared for head-first sliding so hopefully the doctors didn't feel pressured to clear prematurely. It's ElAttache (sp?) so probably not someone who would be bullied. It's the fastest anyone's ever come back from TJ surgery. I'm so freaking nervous that he's going to get off to an understandably-slow start, then press too hard, and reinjure himself. With the extra wild-card, and with them not having any chance at the bye, I'd rather them just tread water for another month and be sure about it.
  7. Bryce Harper coming back as the DH tomorrow, only 160 days after Tommy John. Was originally projected to be back around the all-star break. No minor-league rehab. Once he's allowed to throw, he'll be the first baseman. The last hurdle for him to return to hitting was getting cleared to slide head first since that could mess with his elbow.
  8. Oh for sure. 3-layer twill is also a thing of the past, and that certainly added weight too.
  9. I thought the argument was that way the dazzle fabric was weaved made it significantly heavier than when they use the materials they do for the flat uniforms. I just pulled out an old authentic Eagles jersey that I had from 15 years ago, and it's heavy AF compared to modern jerseys. That doesn't mean that they can't invent the technology to create the same effect with the current materials, but I suppose Nike just doesn't want to invest the $ into it.
  10. Didn't that guy play offensive line for the Bears in the '70s?
  11. I'd rank it just slightly under the Miracle on Ice, but above Namath beating the Colts, Gibson homering for the Dodgers, and Willis Reed starting game 7 for the Knicks in 1970.
  12. He's a nice player, but he'll be irrelevant in a couple of seasons. $10M for a RB is absurd. Carolina paid ex-Eagle Miles Sanders - who's a decent player and good guy - $6.5M. Philadelphia is paying their entire RB room (Rashaad Penny, D'Andre Swift, Kenny Gainwell, Boston Scott, and some jabroni) $6.5M. That's a pretty dang good room. A guy like McCaffrey is special. He's worth committing cap space to. There might be another one or two. But for the most part, only dummies pay RBs.
  13. It may be because people don't know to. If/when it becomes more normalized to use that space for that purpose, that might change. Also, maybe explicitly calling out "Pronouns: they/them" could help (or not... not sure). I'm pretty conscious of these things but I would never have thought to look there either. Then there's the mobile aspect of it - I'm not sure there's a solution there. But I'm not going to check everyone's profile before replying to them, so I'm just trying to come up with a compromise that doesn't require the mods to do anything in the backend and at least helps for people on desktop. While I am the CCSLC's authority on CTE (Infrared can back me up on that one), I'd have no problem deleting that and throwing pronouns there if it was something that we as a collective decided to try.
  14. Drafting him in the first place set them back, because they're a dummy team. Bringing him back for pennies on the dollar wouldn't be dumb, but franchising the other guy was.
  15. I may have posted this before, but in Monteverde Costa Rica, I saw a guy wearing what looked like a really cool burgundy Phillies cap that I hadn't seen before. It had the 50s-style P in a diamond shape (I'm assuming it was a Phillies cap, but it didn't have any other identifying marks on it.) I liked it, and would probably purchase it if I ever saw it. I asked him where he got it and he replied (he was Dutch) that his name was Peter, he saw it in some store and thought "hey... P for Peter - cool!" and that was that. EDIT: I guess this sorta counts too. I have a Yomiuri (Tokyo) Giants cap from a game I went to back in '16. It's a little beaten up now, so it's been demoted to gym-hat status. One day, another guy in my gym walks in with a Yomiuri Giants cap, so now there's two regulars with the same NPB cap. Then some new guy comes in wearing a Tokyo Giants shirt. WTF - three guys repping the Yomiuri Giants in a tiny-ass gym in South Philly? The odds of that have to be microscopic.

    MLB x NIKE Refresh

The compass dotting the i interrupts the natural curvature of the wordmark and kinda clashes with the way everything else is rendered. I'd ditch it. If it needs to be forced in there, maybe work it into a sleeve patch rather than a redundant M that appears 3 times on some uniforms, and twice on others.
  17. If there were to be a pronouns field, it would make more sense for it to be in the area where the avatars are (in place of or in addition to "member title") since I assume very few people actually click into someone's profile to get information before replying to them, but that way it's displayed right there and you can refer to them real-time as you're replying to the post (there was just an example where "him" or "his" was innocently used incorrectly, but maybe wouldn't have had the preferred pronouns been right there on the person's screen.) I don't personally have a need for a pronouns field, but if it's ever reconsidered for the people that do want it, that may be a better place to put it. (though I'm not sure how/if that would work on mobile). EDIT: The members who would like a pronouns field could also simply edit their member title to read "Pronouns they/them" or whatever their preferred ones are. Maybe it doesn't even require a new field.
  18. Until there's a score, they should just display a and let the audience figure it out.
  19. He's going to have to wait until a contender loses a guy to injury - and be willing to play for peanuts. At this point it's possible he doesn't sign until after the season starts. Perfect example of why only dummy teams draft RBs that high - they rarely play on a second contract, and even then, typically fall hard before seeing it through.
  20. I dunno if it would fit in with the jersey lettering, but an italicized trident could look pretty cool on a cap.
  21. Well actually, in addition to hosting a Final Four every 5 years (at max), they'll also likely get 1 (and only one) Super Bowl, and maybe a Wrestlemania out of it. Any reasonable person would understand that $1.5B in public money is totally worth an additional (absolute max of) 6 big events over 20 years. Numbers never lie.
  22. What's really funny is that Howie was hated for a long time. Partially because he had his own show, parially because he always felt the need to prove he was smarter than everyone else and draft complete losers instead of obvious players (Jaelen Reager over Justin Jefferson), and was demoted when Chip Kelly became the GM. Then he came back, immediately won the SB, deal with the Carson Wentz drama and ended up making them better. It's really unbelievable - I don't know that I've ever known a team here that I trust like I do them. Even when they let CJGJ walk - I didn't get it, and was really concerned. But I trust that they know something that I don't, or have a plan that simply hasn't come to fruition yet, so I ain't even mad. EDIT: there was a tweet a few years ago where someone told him to stop being stupid and just draft Georgia and Alabama guys. He replied "OK". Since then, that's basically all he's drafted in the first few rounds. Sometimes the obvious answer is the right one - just get guys from the best teams, and don't get cute with guys that have never actually played under bright lights.
  23. And the best thing is that he's doing nothing that impacts their future - if anything, they're set up with vets with team-friendly contracts, guys on rookie deals, and guys on "prove it" deals, so they'll never be in a situation where they're letting key guys walk or cutting them because of money. They let Hargrave walk, but have last year's #1 ready to step in, then drafted Jalen Carter. So they lost a guy for $80M, but then replaced him with guys making a total of less-than-half that over the next 4-5 years.
