  1. It could be a big deal to someone who bought what they thought was an on-field jersey or replica, and all of a sudden it’s not. It’s certainly not unprecedented (2000 Rams jumps out at me) but I could see why some may find it annoying.
  2. So does that confirm that the black helmet is a 3rd option for them this season?
  3. That shows the Eagles black helmet but not the throwback green one?
  4. I think this is their first new logo since inception? Or at least first change that is noticeable. https://www.motor1.com/news/673386/infiniti-new-badge-scent-sound-refresh-image/ New Old
  5. Except in rare instances, I'm now of the mindset that any relocation should be treated as a new franchise being started and that histories apply to the [city]-[nickname] combination, regardless of how we get there. So the New Orleans team could never have been the Hornets, and would have started a new lineage. The Bobcats would never have started, and would have just picked up where the OG Hornets left off. There's probably some worthy exceptions to this, but they're few and far between.
  6. The best way to handle it would be to "dissolve" the Pelicans franchise, award an expansion team to Seattle, and just move the ex-Pelicans there. Basically the Cleveland deal, but without New Orleans getting anything in return. At least that way you could say that there was only Sonics 1.0 (now Thunder), and Sonics 2.0. What they'd probably try to do is splinter the Thunder from the original Sonics, split off the new Sonics from the Pelicans (and whatever they've been in the past), and try to merge the history of the old Sonics with the new ones, with an empty gap in between. Fans are going to do that anyway (if a team has the same name and colors of a former team there that has played within recent memory, as a fan, I'm going to merge them regardless of what the record books say) but the record books should be done in a way that makes at least some sense. Even if you disagree with the Cleveland deal, it can be explained. The Pelicans/Hornets nonsense is just that - nonsense.
  7. Didn't know that. I thought they built it to lure the Penguins, so I just assumed they were looking to attract a pro sports team. I can't believe that they're actually filling that thing with arena-level concerts and events on such a regular basis that they'd lose by having a pro sports team. Granted it's summer, but I simply can't believe that this lineup makes more than a team would (though obviously a team has higher operating expenses / salaries.) https://www.t-mobilecenter.com/events
  8. That's like OITGDNHL levels of stupidity, and I can't think of any reasoning for it. Why on earth should I tune in to a draft when I know that whoever my team picks has only a 50/50 chance of remaining with them past the night, and that most of the time, the deals have already been worked out so they're essentially lying to you when they say which team is doing the draftng? It's ridiculous and frankly insulting. As a fan, I'm not a fan. Stop with Louisville.
  9. I can't believe it's been that long. There's kids with learner's permits that weren't alive when the Sonics played. Theirs and Browns 1.0 were probably the most heartbreaking moves of my lifetime. Not that any move isn't heartbreaking for the fans affected, but as fans of the sport, losing those franchises hurt, regardless of what team you rooted for. For me, the closest thing would be the Buffalo Braves or New Orleans Jazz (I was technically alive, but no memory), and maybe the KC Scouts or Cleveland Barons. The biggest moves that I was alive for but have no recollection of the teams in their more-famous homes would be the Oakland Raiders 1.0 and Baltimore Colts. Maybe a few NBA moves that nobody cared about. The first relocation that I vividly remember was the St. Louis Cardinals to Phoenix in '88. I remember reading about it in SI, and also hearing a lot on the local news because the Eagles then-current owner nearly lost the Eagles due to gambling debts and was going to sell to Phoenix investors to pay them off, then "the guy in France" bought the Eagles (then sold to Jeff Lurie.)
  10. They're not going to move a team to Seattle and forego a $1B expansion fee. There's also almost no way someone is going to pay to buy a team and then pay a huge relocation fee that would make up for the loss of the expansion money. The story says that they're re-upping their lease in the Smoothie King arena till 2030, so it's moot anyway since Seattle will have a team by then (or I'll eat my hat) and LV likely will too. I think the owners would choose sacrificing the Pelicans in exchange for raking in $2B in expansion fees. If/when the Pelicans are sold and/or move, it will be to some "unsexy" place with an arena but without the cache of Seattle and LV. Like Kansas City and their Sprint Center. Something like that.
  11. I don’t understand how it’s “cleaner”. The previous ones were about as “clean” as it gets, and now there’s the distraction of the mismatched sleeve numbers.
  12. I don’t get this one at all. Not even a little bit. They keep talking about how popular the mid-80s-00s set was, but then go back even further in time to the 60s rather than to give people what they wanted. the single color numbers really look rec league… and black was certainly a choice for the home uni. im also not sure what benefit there was to moving the hem stripe down. Seems like all they needed to do was change the shade of orange and keep everything else they had.
  13. This is a great jersey. Cleaner than with the apostrophe. I get that “A’s” is way more commonly used than when the Mariners tried to push “M’s”, but it’s still a nickname for the nickname so I’d rather just go with the abbreviation for the nickname.
  14. The 's is dumb. They looked way better back in the day when they used simply the A.
  15. Isn't Oakland supposed to get a City Connect next season? Awkward.
  16. Speaking more in general terms than specific to this situation (since I've been following only on the periphery): Usually owners blame out-of-date stadiums on low revenue and an inability to attract (and pay) top free agents. The thought is that by being gifted hundreds of millions in public money, and having a shiny state-of-the-art stadium (and all the additional revenue streams that come with that), the team will be able to afford to compete. I don't know about the LV situation, but usually teams with new parks can profit off of management fees, parking revenue (that may have been remitted back to the city under old leases), luxury suites, etc. A team in a new city may also be able to get a more favorable media-rights deal. Whether any or all of that actually pans out will be seen - but a crappy owner is a crappy owner regardless of where his team is and how nice their playground is.
  17. Does that mean the team has a $1.4B valuation, or the minority stake is $1.4B? I'm surprised in either case, but if a minority stake is that much, then I'm about to fall on the floor in shock. If the TBL are worth more than $3B, I can't imagine what the Rangers, Bruins, Flyers (if they even still exist anymore... I'm not sure), Blackhawks, etc. are worth. $3B is NFL money. I'm going to assume that the team as a whole is what's valued at $1.4B, so the minority stake would be less than 700M... but not sure (article is paywalled.)
  18. I'd argue NHL is by far the sport that relies most on gate. Baseball rights fees can be astronomical depending on the market, so some teams are in the black before a single fan goes through the turnstile. More than a few MLB teams have >$1B local broadcast deals and/or ownership of their RSN.
  19. They should be white, considering they only ever wore the orange tops a couple of times a year. A quick search through GUD shows that in its last 10 years, orange was worn no more than 4x / season... and that was only one season. Usually it was only 1 or 2x / year. Most (but not all) of the time the orange was worn on the road against teams that went WAH. I rarely saw the Bucs on TV other than highlight shows, but I collected football cards and it always seemed super rare to see the orange jerseys. The white over orange Bucs is what I grew up with, though white over white would also be appropriate.
  20. the Eagles actually pay for fares for some of their games, so it's a free ride. Given that every one of the regional rail lines connects to a station where it's easy to hop on the subway, I'd say it's extremely accessible via transit, even if there's a substantial tailgate culture that fills all the lots. I don't know the breakdown, but there's a sizeable number of people that take transit to Eagles games... even if, as mentioned, there's a major tailgating culture. That guy needs to check his facts. The subway schedule for Eagles games is more frequent than the normal schedule (it's basically just when a train overfills, it goes, and then as soon as another one is back, it overfills and goes, etc, with the only difference being some are local and some are express). Personally, I wouldn't go to a local event that required driving and being in a parking lot full of other drivers who have been drinking. I enjoy a good tailgate - when it's someone else's! I'll stick to the trains.
  21. I realize that distance doesn't mean the same in all parts of the country, and driving culture is different, but isn't 92 miles pretty far regardless of where you are? For comparison, both M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore and Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford are 96 miles from Lincoln Financial Field in Phila.
  22. Madden 2000 had the Eagles with black numbers on their green jerseys (1:33 mark if it doesn't start there)
