Dayne Amaze
kevsim1, the playoffs would be pretty much the same as it is currently. The conference would be-ranked, division winner #1 getting the top seed and division winner #2 getting the second seed in the conference standings. (1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5.) And to tigerslionspistonshabs, you're right, I think that makes sense that they are putting teams in the same time zone together. I just think that this might make more sense. I believe that the Canucks could have a better rivalry being in the same division with the Red Wings, or Blackhawks, than with the Kings and Sharks for example. Also, I would also be upset to see the rivalry between my hometown Flyers and the New York teams be separated, but I would still take that over what they have currently done with the realignment and that's moving Detroit away from Chicago. RoughRiders99
A 36-team NHL? Are you being serious. Honestly the NFL is about the only league that could pull off 36 teams. If the NBA went to 5 divisions of 6 and somehow found a way to make a 6-team European division work, then maybe. But definitely not the NHL. Not to mention, a team in Des Moines? Four teams in the Toronto-Buffalo area?Yay Des Moines!!Although I would call them Des Moines Raccoons, but that's just me.

Magnus
As I understand it, the Blackhawks are probably the team most upset by Detroit's departure to the East - leaving them the lone O6 team in the West. I attempted to rectify that for them, by eliminating conferences altogether, instead going with five divisions of six teams.

Magnus
How would the playoffs work in your realignment?Playoff standings would be determined in a league-wide table from 1-30. Division winners would not be guaranteed spots, but ranked according to league standings as well. It's theoretically possible that an entire division could miss the playoffs. Heck, maybe 2 entire divisions...lolUPDATE: Edited July 26, 2013 by Magnus
Magnus
This one I simply call "SCREW EVERYONE". It does allow the O6 teams to play a reasonable number of games against each other, but it also increases the travel burden for every team, thus making Detroit and Columbus' whining into a punishment for everyone. thepjguy
Move the Whalers back. Probably take Nashville or the Coyotes.

Magnus
This realignment groups the Original 6 teams together, thereby keeping the Wings and Hawks together, but moving the Wings into an "eastern" division, of sorts. The benefits of this setup are the preservation of the Wings-Hawks rivalry, along with the relocation of a few teams to more appropriate divisions. Vancouver now gets to play 3 division mates in its own time zone, for one. Dallas and Winnipeg also get division mates in their own time zone - plus, Winnipeg and Minnesota are together, at last. Also included in this setup are the "select" matchups, whereby heated rivalries of the past can still be preserved through extra matchups, like Canucks-Flames, Avs-Wings, Rangers-Devils, Leafs-Sabres, etc. The select matchups also creates at least one intriguing new rivalry, a matchup of the two largest media markets (Los Angeles and New York). In order to minimize travel, the "select" games could all be played back-to-back, resulting in 4-game road trips or home stands.

kevsim1
I say in the NHL move Phoenix to Seattle, Florida to Quebec City, expand to Markham, expand either KC, Milwaukee or Portland. The move Detroit back west. Then just make 4 divisions of 8.Pacific:VancouverEdmontonCalgarySeattleSan JoseLAAnaheimColoradoMidwest:DetroitNashvilleMinnesotaSt.LouisKansas CityDallasChicagoWinnipegCentralTorontoMontrealBostonOttawaMarkhamBuffaloColumbusQuebec CityAtlanticNew York RangersPhiladelphiaPittsburghNew JerseyWashingtonCarolinaTampa BayNew York Islanders
