NHL Digital Ads during hockey games

The fact that millions of people are going to watch a league with this and uniform ads is unreal. The NHL should go full NASCAR uniforms and put sponsors in the team names just to see how far you can take things

I understand companies need to make money. They need ads to promote their product. But there's a way to do so without insulting your paying customers that tune in to watch their team play. To disrupt to the entire game is taking it too far.

Even though they're still making a ton of money, companies are still mad that viewers use commercials for bathroom breaks, to go get a snack, or when they play music over the intermission ads in restaurants. So now, they're trying new ways to make sure that their ads are shoved down our throats.

  • habsfan1 changed the title to NHL Digital Ads during hockey games

I would totally use that for home-ice advantage and make it look like there's extra defenders all over the place, or maybe a monster or dragon that's chasing down the puck carrier.  On the other end of the ice, it's just plain or scrolls advice, like "PASS IT TO DAVE ON THE LEFT" or "THERE'S A DEFENDER CATCHING UP TO YOU, SHOOT NOW".

The players can't see those ads, but now I wish they could.

Damn.  I thought it was an LED scroll thing.  I guess they did a really good job if I couldn't tell based on the gif  in the OP.  Usually green-screen ads are super noticeable.

Maybe I'm just used to it after all these years, but NASCAR ads are nowhere near as distracting.

The NFL is going to start doing this so that when a team gives up a safety, the endzone goes from saying "End Racism" to "Start Racism"

I would hire the top hackers in the world to F with the league and put whatever message I choose back there.  I'm not sure about "Start Racism", but maybe display the active charges against or actual convicted felonies that the player who just scored has.  Or maybe hack the midfield logo and have it be a gif of Antonio Brown waving his wang around helicopter style in the pool in Dubai.

I'm displaying this every time Deshaun Watson takes the field.

Reminds me of how someone recently hacked one of the Flyers blogs and used it to show porn and up-close foot-fetish pictures for around 48 hours.

If Rex Ryan was still coaching, I'd totally have digital feet pop up wherever I could.

I feel like the digital ads would be fine if they mimicked the other dasher ads. Just plain, motionless, and had to be white background based. But unfortunately they’ve got all of these motions and moving graphics that distract from the puck.

Also you’d think that the “massive” increase in revenue from these new dasher boards would help keep the ads off the jersey.

Maybe they should just dump all advertising at the arena, and make it all digital, including the jersey ads. So that way we can at least enjoy a real game ad free. You gotta pay the upgrade to live to get it ad free lol

These are worse than I could have imagined.   So distracting and takes away from the viewing experience.

Of course they change every 30 seconds, of course they added animation!  Why?  Because they know it will distract viewers to pay attention to an Ad instead of the game itself.  It's really pathetic the NHL is basically adding Pop Up ads to its own broadcast. You would hope a league would want to present its product in a clean and friendly way to its audience but instead we get this garbage and are told to suffer through it.
