boggs and sandberg

Boggs and Sandberg both deserve to be in the HOF.

I think they need to re-evaluate how long to keep a guy on the ballot. Sutter came in 3rd 43 votes shy, in his 12th year. I think he has 3 more shots. If a player hasn't made it in by his 5th ballot he should be removed.

Personally, I think if a guy doesn't make it on his first ballot, he never should get in. Why should it take 4,5,6,....13 votes to be considered a HOFer? Some just make it because there was no one else to vote for.

Will Boggs go as a D-Ray?

sure hope he does, the first Ray ever

That is definately not going to happen, the HOF will make sure he goes in as a Boston Red Sock(?)

I'm not sure about Sandberg making it, but congrats to the two of them anyways.

When Boggs signed his contract, I believe he signed a contract with the Devil Rays that he would go in as a Devil Ray, him and Canseco did as well. So looks like he may go in as a Devil Ray... :cursing: Not right but money talks

Thanks to the press, Jim Rice is once again denied an entry into the HOF, after one hell of a career. <_<

Rice had a solid career, but I don't think HOF quality. Plus, if I recall right, he was quite surly with the press. You can't expect to be nasty to those who have the vote and get in. Unless you put up Eddie Murray type numbers.

You can't contract something like that. The Hall has the final say, they just get player input. Ultimately it is up to the Museum, and they are not bound by player contracts.

Remeber all the talk about how Clemens would go in when he retires. He wants to be a Yankee, but the Hall is talking about Red Sox since his best years were there.

So just cuz he didn't like to talk to press he shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame?

Eight time All-Star

AL MVP (1978)

AL HR Champion (1977, 78, and 83)

Two-time AL RBIs Leader (1978, 83)

2,089 games

2,452 hits

.298 batting average

382 HRs

1,451 RBIs

.502 SLG%

I think that's HOF calibur.

The Hall now picks the cap the player is going to wear on the plaque. They take input from the player but they have the final say. They are doing this specifically because of Boggs and his contract with the Devil Rays. They will probably give him a choice between the Yankees or the Red Sox. Either one of those is fine imo. He spent most of his career in Boston, and with the Yankees he won a World Series and was an important part of turning that team from losers into a dynasty. His signing with the Yankees was sort of a turning point from losing 80's and early 90's to when they started to become contenders in 93 leading up to the first World Championship in 96.

Both Boggs and Ryno are deserving. I will always associate Boggs w/ the Red Sox. I think you're right, jkrdevil, that the HOF changed the rules in response to the deal Boggs cut w/ the Devil Rays.

Ryno was my hero as a kid. I'm a li'l bent that it took this long to get him enshrined, but I'll let bygones be bygones. The writers got it right this time. Sandberg is easily HOF material.

i think we all know what sandberg is going in as.

a cub.

He should have gone in as a Phillie :cursing: . Yet another reason why the Phillies are the LOSINGEST. PROFESSIONAL SPORTS FRANCHISE. EVER (yes... even worse than the Clippers, ugh).

... Go Phils in '05 :P

Like I said, Solid. He didn't hit any of the magic numbers. No 3000 Hits. No .300 average. Not even 400 HR's. No World Series Rings. 1 MVP award does not deserve the HOF. He wasn't the best hitter or best fielder. Outside of 1977-79, he wasn't even the best player on his team most seasons.
