My first attempt at in-depth gradients (or any gradients really) in Illustrator:

I won't fill up the thread with any more progress pics, just looking for a little C&C (though it is a contest, eh?)

Just fair warning: Gradients in most sports logos are not a good thing. The beginnings of yours look too delicate and complex, if that makes sense.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

I know exactly what you mean. This is actually just a wordmark that I didn't plan on being a part of the main logo (not with the gradients, anyway--it would be solid gold were I to use it along with the main logo).

I appreciate the feedback, Tempest. Always a pleasure *bows*

Here's my entry. The state fossil of Utah..

Utah has a state FOSSIL?

A lot of states do.

Anyway, (puts on special "Paleontologist" hat) what's that thing across Big Al's snout?

Do an image search for allosaurus. I think I got it right...

Utah's ain't so bad. I was doing some research on North Dakota for this contest, and I believe their state fossil is a form of petrified wood.

Sorry Homie, you don't.

I looked it up in my Bible, but just to prove it:

You've got what appears to be a hatchet blade in his face, it's actually a small ridge.
