Buffalo Bills: The New Chargers

Is it just me, or are the Bills slowly becoming our new Chargers? Think about it, the issue of the Chargers' powder blues has divided us in half (the "throwbacks rock" party and "fluff throwbacks" party). My main questions are:

1) Have/will the Bills overtaken the Chargers as the NFL's sexy throwback?

2) Who could possibly be next?

3) Will this issue continue to baloon?

I don' tthink the Bills can count.

With the Chargers, I think you'll find most people on both sides enjoy both jerseys, one just likes one better.

With the Bills, most everyone agrees a change is needed.

Personally, I don't think going to the throback would be the right change, though it's an improvement. If the Bills were to use the current logo and inverse the stripeing colors, those throwbacks might be real good. That said, I think the Bills should also go with a red helmet. I'd like red pants too.

I think the phenom is because powder blue is the "hot" color right now and the Bills current set is so bad, people like them. I prefer the normal Charger and the throwback bills if they do something with the helmet to make it more up to date. I think (hope not though) the Bucs could be the one people fall in love with. People love the orange and Bruce and a lot call for him. Especially since Bruce and the history behind him and the new owners disowning him is like taboo or something.

Yes, the throwbacks would be an improvement, but use the current logo. The stationary buffalo is one of those great throwback logos that needs to STAY a throwback. I think their current logo is one of the best right now.

And, just for the record, the Bills current uniforms rank number 32 on my personal list.

Absolutely beautiful. I even think those would look good with the red helmet, but i like the white helmet 100% better. Perfect look

1. As others have said, the Bills differ from the Chargers in one crucial way: the Chargers have a decent set, which has split people into two camps (although I'm pulling for a return to gold facemasks, gold pants and royal blue jerseys. But the Bills are saddled with such horrible primary uniforms that you could offer up almost anything red/white/blue and without contrast-colored yokes and people would flock to it. The fact that the throwbacks look more appropriate football uniforms only makes it easier.

2. Potential next "sexy" throwback? Best bet would be for a team with some success in its history that has fallen on hard times, and is looking for a link to past glory in the minds of their fans, who are ready for a new look. Potential candidates: St. Louis Rams, New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins.

3. I don't know that it'll balloon much more. Like the black phase, and the teal phase, and the horrible-team-name phase, it is approaching critical mass. Eventually, the people who push pop culture will move on from retromania to something else, and sports will go that way (plaid? puffy shirts?).

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

The Standing Buffalo is SO much better than the current one due to one glaring point... the motion line on the new logo. It's horrible, bad 80s. With everything now days zooming and swooshing, it's nice to see a well designed, single color, mark that is strong.

As for the Chargers, I've metioned it before but over 75% of the Charger fans polled want a full time return to the powder blues (San Diego Union Tribune). Spanos is just hard headed.

His money, his team, his rules - which includes insisting on the navy uniforms to serve as his "stamp" on the team.

Why do you think the Eagles haven't worn kelly green since Jeff Lurie made the switch, tradition be damned, to midnight green a decade ago? Fans loved kelly green. They'd worn that same color for over half a century - for 3 NFL titles, 1 Super Bowl appearance and everything in between. The Eagles could make some bucks on retro gear, but Lurie is hammering home the point that this is how his team is going to look.

Spanos compromises because he can make money in spite of himself by allowing just a little taste of the powder blues every now and again.

Houston.

Houston? Okay so explain me to me how a team with 1 uniform has a throwback? *LOL* I guess an Oilers type throwback could be done. Now if it was up to me, the next team to pull out a throwback uni would be *ducking* Team CREAMSICLE!!! *ducks* Yes the Bucs orange. *ducks again* I know as long as the current ownership group is in charge, they'll never see the light of day, but I grew up rooting for the Bucs in those unis and I love them.

Do you notice, with the navy blue trend so many teams have given into ingrained in our memory, that royal blue and red looks like a new, fresh color scheme? Weird.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

Good point tempest. Now if we could only find a way for the Pats to get back into these duds:

1994 Pats unis = best unis ever (IMO).

They could even bust them out to commemorate the year owner Bob Kraft bought the team! It'll probably never happen, but at least there's some significance behind those unis. :D

Amen to that. The USC-style numbers look so good, and nobody else seems to wear them (the red numbers weren't bad, either). Plus, those unis had the distinctive pants stripes. I wonder why these got dumped after a couple seasons, considering what's followed was a downgrade.
