Dallas Stampede Concept

AAO

Recommended Posts

Looks great! I much prefer the three horses and wordmark to just one. The single horse head could have bigger eyes, and possibly more angular eyes as well.

Would the primary logo be the upper-left, the secondary, be the lone horse on the lower-left, and the tertiary be the horse's head?

For some reason the horses look like fillies to me. I don't know why. They just remind me of all the little My Little Ponies in my living room right now. Although the head only looks plenty mean. I do like the wordmark though alot. And if this was for a womens team it would be great.

Ian, I was wondering when you were going to post another concept. You were really pumping them out and then you just stopped...

Anyway, your wordmark, as usual, is pretty solid. It's nice you see you've move away from the two-toned ones that you were doing for awhile.

You should only go with one horse, having the 3 makes it too busy and takes away from the rest of the logo.

The position of the horse legs as they are now seems very unnatural; the one rear leg appears to be twisted and it's compounded by the fact they appeared to be connected. I would suggest looking at the Ford Mustang logo for an idea.

My only complant on the straight on head is that the stars seem out of place; adding a green outline would probablily change that.

I once had a car but I crashed it. I once had a guitar but I smashed it. I once, wait where am I going with this?

seeing as one horse doesn't make a stampede, you should go with the three. although i'd like to see it without identical triplets, but three different horses.

and make them fierce...these horses are pussies.

Ian. Ian, Ian, Ian.

Although I'm glad to see most of the body of an animal in your logo, it just seems that you have one certain style that you go back to time and time again. Big serif'ed wordmark, either cutting an animal in half horizontally, or a big animal/bird head. Just once, I'd like to see you branch out away from this motif, into something different.

I know you have talent, it's in there. We've all seen it. It just feels like the new Grey Cup logo, more of the same.

Don't take this as a knock, but this feels like a cookie cutter logo on your behalf. I've seen this before from you. Not to say that it's bad, because it isn't. It's just.......the same.

Push yourself, man. I know you can branch off into a different layout if you put your mind to it.

But can a single horse be a stampede?

Nice job with the logo AAO!!

Very true, but like 95% of teams have a name that states multiples of the mascot, yet the logo only shows one of the said mascot.

And what if the horse's name is Stampede? :P

good illustrative qualities, but i think they are a bit too cute for a Dallas based team. Can you see a middle aged texan man wearing that? I can't. I know its just a concept, but something you should probably consider while making a concept that could be used. I understand it can be seen cliche to make all logos "mean looking." But making the horseys look a little less philly-like.

Why must you always cut off the lower portion of an animals body to put the wordmark there? Its not a logical cut off and throws off the logo. How can it be a stampede when there are no legs?

And yes, the full body ones look like a drunk My Little Pony.

And no, I'm not trying to be an :censored: here. Just wanna see you try new things.

Looking at it, I have to agree. The legs especially make the full-body drawings look like ponies instead of wild mustangs. I'm not a big fan of anatomical correctness in logos, but as it stands they look like devil-spawn ponies.

Most of this has been touched upon, but I think most of it needs to be elaborated upon even more.

A. I'll start with the good part. The wordmark. That's a pretty modern letterform, but with classic serifs, and I like it. It's different, legible, and the way in which you've treated the letters is effective. A few things to check, though, are the proximity of the S and T, and the proximity of the A and M. They look accidentally close, and that creates odd focal points within the word.

B. The front view horse logo has so much potential, but it could still use some refining. you have this great angular style beginning to appear here, and it's so refreshing to see that departure from your normal, overly-curvacious drawings. Continue it. Exaggerate it. Develop it. It works. The only areas that I would refine on the head are the curves below the wedges in the snout, and the mohawk mane, which is beginning to read as fire, especially in yellow.

C. The full-body horse, on the other hand, needs a lot of attention. I would start over with a brand new sketch. Here's what I see: It's in the classic AAO style. It's curve-happy, and it lacks form and definition in key areas. Horses are extremely muscular. Hard edges and sharp angles can accentuate those muscular areas. The legs, jowls, torso, snout, hooves, all crisp, defined areas on a horse. The legs look like noodles. The jowls should be prominent, and fairly round. The torso should be larger in the ribcage area and taper fairly sharply to the waist area just in front of the hind legs, and it may need to be a it longer, depending on how it looks after you thin it out. The snout is far too short for a horse. This looks more like a donkey, mule, pony, or other lesser species. The hooves are indistinguishable from the rest of the legs. There are simply too many anatomical problems here.

D. I know it's hard, and it takes energy to make three separate horses, but copy and pasting one image to create a group is a big no-no. Fact of life. That's about all.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

the thing i dislike the most about this concept is the team name... not sure why.

and yeah, they look like happy little ponies. someone said "my little pony" and that's exactly what i was going to say.

also, i'm not a huge fan of the colors, either. metallic silver green and faded copper?

i think what is making the horses look so girly and friendly is the cheeks. i can't think of any aggressive logo, off the top of my head, that has chubby cheeks.

and yeah, i think for this logo to go anywhere, you'd need 3 different horses.

this is like the attack of the adorable clones of a my little pony.

after re-reading, that sounds very negative. there is no denying that you have skills. these are all very well rendered, imo. but they just don't look like a sports logo.

and i've seen some of your stuff that made my jaw drop, so i know you've got the skills... and i know you can take tough crit.
