Herk
I have a soft spot in my heart for those caps, if only because the Brewers put one of my favorite logs on them:What years did they wear that as their BP Hat, before going to the design they have had for that last couple of years? Gothamite
That was the BP until 1999. It was the first cap specifically used for batting practice, and was replaced when the Brewers went to their current set.I don't remember exactly when MLB introduced the BP caps - anybody know? The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
Discrim
heh, I seem to recall 99 was the first year of them. At the latest, I damn well know it was no earlier than 98. I shoulda gotten the Cubs version when I had the chance... A strong mind gets high off success, a weak mind gets high off bull
bradleyrmanuel
'99 was the first year, it was the same year the Reds added black. I too had one of the old ones, it fit really low-profile compared to the 59/50 as I remember but it was really comfortable.
SabreGuy
I have this one, in a 7 3/4. If it weren't all dusty, and I didn't already know they were so hard to find, I might have parted with it... mostly because it's a TERRIBLE cap. I never, ever could wear it.I bought it online, in my normal cap size at the time (I had a lot more hair then) and it was WAY, WAY too huge, mostly because it wouldn't shrink (obviously). Also, I found them to be a lot heavier than regular 5950 caps. Like... it felt significantly weighty on my head, where a wool 5950 never does to me.Really, the problem was it was like wearing a piece of plastic on your head. The crown was SO stiff (felt much stiffer to me than a wool 5950 crown, out of the box), and SO high, and it just didn't feel like good fabric.Meh, I'm ranting. I hated this hat. I'm keeping it for the sake of my collection, but it was a mistake that was not corrected soon enough. As much as people hate the 2007 version of the BP cap with the random ear arches... I would take that model any day and twice on Sundays over the 2002 model. ZoDogg34
The last year for those was 2002.The flexfit caps came out in 2003.Some players on the Cardinals still wore the old mesh ones up until the end of last year for BP instead of the flexfit for some reason. Also, until this year, Barry Bonds wore that old mesh style cap for spring training games instead of the flexfit ones. This year, he's wearing the flexfit cap because the design is different.I have a Cardinals, Diamondbacks, and Brewers cap like that...but I don't have the Brewers cap like was posted previously. I have the one with the current M logo, although it still has the Wisconsin outline behind it. Currently I work for the Giants in spring training but I worked for the Brewers Spring Training 2000-2002. I've worked for the Giants each spring since 2003. xnylived
I had one of those, I wore it every freaking day too. I'd still wear it, or any indians hat with a large Cheif Wahoo logo, on it any day of the week. Screw Political Correct-ness.

Hmm... yeah, 'bout that. Maybe closer to 3-400, but yeah. I never actually sat down and counted them. I have 3 under-bed storage boxes full, plus another five large cardboard boxes full, plus 3 of those Lids hanging cap racks on the wall of my den full of the hats in regular wearing rotation. (though, honestly, my newest Sabres unstructured cotton flex-fit reebok hat is the only thing I've worn, other than to toss on when I take the dog for a walk, in about 2 weeks.)
