hecticbro Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 With both Buffalo and Anaheim reaching the NHL conference finals, there's a decent chance that the Stanley Cup finals could feature both of the newly redesigned teams. When was the last time this has happened in any sport? Were the Ravens and Giants in their first years of redesigns in the 2000 (or whenever it was) Super Bowl? That's the closest I could think of off the top of my head.
DG_YouKnowWhatThatMeans Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 It's not the same, but how about Super Bowl 32 (I think that's the right number..)? It was the first year of the Titans' new uniforms, but the last year of the Rams old uniforms. That's kind of neat, isn't it? 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
29a Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I'm more concerned about where Drury and Briere would put their Stanley Cup patches.
oz615 Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I'm more concerned about where Drury and Briere would put their Stanley Cup patches. And that right there is the reason why i don't like the uniform numbers on the front of the jersey.

CC97 Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Both teams made the Conference finals last year... would've been neat if we had back-to-back stanley cup finals with the teams completely re-branded in there. --- Chris Creamer Founder/Editor, SportsLogos.Net "The Mothership" • News • Facebook • X/Twitter • Instagram
Ferdinand Cesarano Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 This may be a borderline case, but there is the 1972 World Series between the A's and the Reds. The A's were in the first year of their iconic set that they wore through 1979, having changed from the vests. The Reds' change for 1972 was a switch from button-down/belts to pullovers/waistbands, but with no other redesign. (Still, I think it counts.)
goforbroke Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 was 1997 the first year of the bulls' pintripe black? and was it the first year of the jazz mountain range jersies?
ReginaCanuck Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Now watch as half the league re-designs their uniforms in hopes of making the finals next year....Oh. Right.
Sabrejeff Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I'm more concerned about where Drury and Briere would put their Stanley Cup patches. And Numminen. The rumor is it would go next to the captain C or the alternate captain A so it would look normal on the left breast of the other 17 players.
CubsFanBudMan Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 was 1997 the first year of the bulls' pintripe black? and was it the first year of the jazz mountain range jersies?I believe so, but those black jerseys never saw the playoffs, let alone the NBA Finals. (And maybe the Sabres' won't either)
hecticbro Posted May 10, 2007 Author Posted May 10, 2007 Are you suggesting they'd go to the throwbacks full time if they make the finals? Even if they were to do that, the road set can't change.
FiddySicks Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Wasnt 99 the first year of the Stars current set? And wasnt that also the first year of the Sabres last set? Probably not, but I thought I heard that somewhere...... On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
FlyersHockey1967 Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Wasnt 99 the first year of the Stars current set? And wasnt that also the first year of the Sabres last set? Probably not, but I thought I heard that somewhere......According to nhluniforms.com, 96-97 was the first year of the Goat Heads. Also, NHL 99's PC intro (made in 98) had Matthew Barnaby in the Goat Heads (scoring against Hextall, grrrrrr....) from the 97-98 season. Also according to nhluniforms.com, 98-99 was the year of the star template uniforms for Dallas, which was apparently an alternate they wore on the road during the playoffs. But just for kicks (as long as you're not a Buffalo fan), go to nhluniforms.com, click on 1990's, go to 98-99, and highlight the Dallas unis. Along with the picture of the Cup (as done with every Cup winning team on the site) displayed, it has a clear picture of Hull's skate in the crease.
cityhockeyfever Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Wasn't there a report floating around that the Sabres would wear their road blue throwback jersey in the Stanley Cup Finals (if they make it) at home in case they won the championship at HSBC Arena? I heard it somewhere, but I don't remember where I did. Maybe somebody else here does.I wish the Ducks would go back to the original uniforms. If people don't like the exact ones, maybe in the new colors.
CubsFanBudMan Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Are you suggesting they'd go to the throwbacks full time if they make the finals? Even if they were to do that, the road set can't change.Actually, I was saying what cityhockeyfever is saying above. But now that I think about it, I believe the deal was that the Sabres would wear throwbacks in potential home Cup-clinching games only, so the new look could still appear at home during the Finals and, as you said, on the road.
hecticbro Posted May 11, 2007 Author Posted May 11, 2007 I'm pretty sure their plan is to wear the throwbacks in any potentially clinching game at home, throughout the postseason.
FiddySicks Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 So they wanna wear the throwbacks with the mismatching shorts and helmets? Way to NOT go out in style On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
KevinMcD Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 So they wanna wear the throwbacks with the mismatching shorts and helmets? Way to NOT go out in style with all the money they are raking in they should get matching helmets and shorts
FlyersHockey1967 Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 I wish the Ducks would go back to the original uniforms. If people don't like the exact ones, maybe in the new colors.I wish they could've kept those unis too, but since Disney owns the name and uniforms of the "Mighty Ducks" and their new owner didn't buy them, they made new ones and renamed them the Anaheim Ducks.
