I Am A Flaming Douche Bag
Did anyone see the amazing play John McDonald (SS for the Jays) made in their game against the Indians?First off, he slides across just to keep the ball in the infield then while flat on the ground uses his legs to push himself up just enough to make a solid throw to first and get the guy.Me describing it makes it seem like a usual play, when you see the play you will agree that it may be the POTY. drevel
Yes, I saw it & it was sick. I think it was the #1 "web gem" on ESPN.
DDR
The play itself: pretty impressiveThe fact that commentator said, "John McDonald puttin' on the Ritz with the defense here in the ninth?" Decidedly more impressive.

zer0dotcom
^Haha on the quote.Imo, POTY no doubt about it.Sorry Beltran was better it came at a more important timeAll Beltran did was catch, Johnny slid, caught, threw and got him.
I Am A Flaming Douche Bag
Beltrans may have been more important but Macs was a better all around play.
Shumway
Beltrans may have been more important but Macs was a better all around play.Exactly. On pure aesthetics AND difficulty, McDonald's got Beltran beat easily. The throw's 10 times more impressive than the sliding grab in itself. I Am A Flaming Douche Bag
The throw itself is the beauty of the play. Sure the slide was nice but the way he threw the ball and the position he was in made the play.
Breakwood
^Haha on the quote.Imo, POTY no doubt about it.Sorry Beltran was better it came at a more important timeSo because Johnny Mac made that while his team was being blown out it is less impressive? If anything I think it's more impressive since his team had all but lost that game and there was nothing to play for.

zer0dotcom
^ Nothing wrong with personally prefering one play over the other, no doubt it's a big play for Mets Nation.Arguing which play is better overall is a different beast
baseballking99
I hate how all of the outfield catches are thought of as bigger plays then ones like this. I realize the athleticism necessary to make the outfield grabs but the infield plays are much more difficult. ESPN and other networks have the lists of best plays and the great grabs in the outfield are always number one. This play beats all of those hand down. Not only do you have to make the catch but you gotta make the throw with only fractions of a second to spare. I might just have the mind of an infielder but I rather see an Ozzie smith highlight reel over and an outfielders.
