Is it just me, or does NBC seem so subdued?

Their homeslice Sidney Crosby didn't win.

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

It's not NBC that seems subdued to me, it's the crowd. Again, this is the first time in eight years that the Cup was won on the other team's rink, so this is understandable.

In other news, Dallas Drake gets his 1st Stanley Cup.

Another long time Blue finds a new home and immediately wins the Cup. Disgusting.

I freaking hate the Red Wings.

You talking about Dallas Drake? I remember him as a Coyote for a few seasons. I'm happy he won the cup.

Drake 'n Draper, former Jets makin' good. :D

Remember, this is Drake's second run as a Red Wing. Jets got him and Tim Cheveldae in exchange for Bob Essensa and Sergei Bautin.

Yeah, I didn't mean he was only a Blue. Just that he spent a good handful of years here and was a fan favorite. Was even captain last season.

The Blues cut ties with him to go younger, and rightfully so, and I AM happy for him. Just tired of seeing it happen. It's worse when it happens with the Red Wings.

This will probably be my last post on this thread. The playoffs were kind of blah this year, but they ended on their usual high note. Pittsburgh was my pre-playoffs pick to win the Cup, and they came within a couple of games of making good on that pick. We've not seen the last of this crew in the Finals by a longshot. But this was Detroit's year not to collapse in the early rounds for a change, or any rounds at all for that matter. And it's an almost entirely different team from the one that last lifted the Cup in '02, so I doubt this will be the last hurrah for the Red Wings either.

Now that hockey season is over, I'm now on my annual 6-week (or thereabouts) sports-fan semi-vacation, to last until mid-July, when I start making preparations in earnest for fantasy football season.

One more time... way to go Red Wings, 2008 Stanley Cup champions.
