2007-08 NHL Season Thread

Now that hockey season is over, I'm now on my annual 6-week (or thereabouts) sports-fan semi-vacation, to last until mid-July, when I start making preparations in earnest for fantasy football season.

I see you're not a baseball fun huh? No worries, football season is only a couple months away :D.

There's also supporting your local soccer team. Hell, he's got a Gooners sig, time to get on board with the Thunder. :P

Congrats to the Red Wings (no matter how much I'm bound to hate them as a St. Louisan *heh*). Terrific Cup final series. And I don't think we've heard the last from either of these teams.

I wonder what wold have happened if Mats was traded to Detroit?

Sorry but he won't be in the Blue & White next season. :P

Reminds me of when the Red Wings beat up on the little kids and won Stanley's Cup on South Park.

Luckally none of the players made out on ice.

I'm happy for Draper to win another cup - one of the nicest people I have ever met. Don't know a more deserving person.

CBC is doing a montage with some sort of porno music going on in the background :P

Yea... the weird moaning at the beginning kind of worried me...

It definitely made me pay attention to the rest of the video.

That last clip of credits for HNIC always gets me.

What an ending to the game.

Congrats to the Red Wings a well deserved Stanley Cup.

Does anyone else have an empty feeling inside them knowing that it's going to be close to 4 months until there is real hockey to watch again?

When your team loses the championship, its one of the worst things a fan can feel, especially when you see it in person...

...however, despite doing just that, I dont feel as bad as when we were down 2-0 or lost game 4. In fact, I feel kinda relieved. Maybe its because this series was already over twice before. Maybe after losing game 4 I subconciosly decided that I'll believe along if they somehow turn it around, but am ready to accept the fate of losing.

Maybe it'll just really hit me tomorrow, who knows.

All I know is that we probably wont be back in the finals next year, unless Shero works some serious magic and some guys are willing to make sacrifices on their paycheck. Its only couple more months until hockey returns...but it seems like an eternity.

WOOOOO!

Now that that's out of my system, hell of a series. Pittsburgh'll get theirs, I'm just glad it wasn't this year. I'm a little upset I had to watch Hasek skate with the cup again, to be honest. He may've been a key component this year, but I hate the guy. The best part of my night was seeing Darren McCarty skate with the cup again. The guy's been through so much, and, even if it was his own fault, he worked hard to get back to the NHL, and now look at him - 4 time champion.

I really wouldn't mind if it were his final skate, period. Yeah, the guy was one of the best in the late-90s, but now he's always getting injured or benched, yet the guy is still winning rings as a backup goalie ... C'mon!

On to Pittsburgh. Props to them for making a series of it. Of course it sucks to lose after coming so far only to fall short, but I'm feelin pretty good if I'm a Pens fan right now. They are without a doubt a force in the NHL, at least a year ahead of schedule, and if they can keep Crosby and Malkin for years to come, the sky's the limit.

On the CBC they had interviews with essentially every Wing player and his was fantastic. I feel for a lot of those players and like some of them even more now. I loved seeing some of the press box players being interviewed as well.

And yes, good for Hasek being one of the last to skate with it. Douche.

These interviews wouldn't happen to be online, would they? NHL.com has a few, except Sid the Kid's was like twice as long as everyone else's. I wanted to read about what McCarty had to say, as he's been my favorite player for years now. Heck, I switched my traditional #33 in hockey for #25 the past few seasons.

That reminds me...

Despite living next to the city where cups have been won more than anywhere else, I still have yet to experience a Stanley Cup parade.

He had his daughter with him who was very cute and Scott Oake (a CBC reporter) kept asking him about how great this experience is with being able to share in it after all the trouble throughout the year and then having to play in rec leagues. He seemed to be very happy and kind of over whelmed about the whole thing but it was very nice. It just kind of bugged me Oake kept asking him about his substance abuse problems with his daughter in his arms and son beside him (apparently 2 of 4, lol). Otherwise, it was nice. As were most of the interviews with the players. They loved Dan Cleary, showed a lot of him, seems like a nice guy as well.

It's a good thing Mac's great with the media, from what I've heard. You know, it's just not the time or place to talk about his substance abuse problems. I mean, they can hint towards his 'misfortunes', I suppose, in the past, but why can't the media focus on his hard road back to the NHL, and more specifically, on the Stanley Cup. I'm not sure if Mac'll be back next year, but man, what a way to go out.

And on a side note, I can't wait til Darren Helm is a regular in Detroit. I'd only seen him play once prior to the playoffs, but man, I was impressed, specifically in the 3OT game.

While I'm babbling, I might add that I was quite upset when the Wings resigned Dallas Drake. I didn't see any real reason to add yet another aging veteran. Now, I don't see Drake as a key to the Wings' success, but I am very pleased to see him raise the cup.

Couldn't agree with you more on that one.

And boy do I miss CBC. NBC is a joke with their coverage. Would have loved to see all the interviews.

I actually watched more of NBC's coverage a lot more than CBC's throughout the playoffs. I seem to enjoy Mike Emerick's call more than Bob Cole's and I would take Pierre Mcguire over Greg Millen.

I saw, I came, I left.

Scott Oake has always been a horrible reporter, asking the questions that not only don't need to be asked, but also cleary make the person he's interviewing uncomfortable. I remember after Game 7 of the 2003 Eastern Conference Finals, when the Devils won the series on a goal with only 2 minutes left in the game, and he walks up to Wade Redden and asks him "So how does it feel to have missed that defensive assignment that led to the series-clinching goal?" and you could tell throughout the interview that Wade Redden wanted to clock him upside the head.
