2008 MLB Season

With the bullpen to blame this time, the Cubs went down to the Rays tonight 8-3, thus completing Tampa Bay's 3-game sweep of the the Northsiders.

No doubt the Cubs have been playing like a contender the first two months of the season, but now with Soriano out a month and Zambrano experiencing some shoulder issues, perhaps it's all beginning to catch up to them. From what I've been hearing, Chicago's farm system is pretty weak if they look to swing a deal for help over the summer months. Regardless of prospects, they've gotta make a run at C.C. Sabathia before the MLB trade deadline, especially is Big Z winds up on the DL.

Another thing I'm starting to notice about the Cubbies is that if Fukudome doesn't learn learn how to read the carom of the ball off the walls better he's gonna give up a LOT of extra bases, and that will absolutely kill you come playoff time against a team with speed and good pitching who can keep the game close like the D Backs.

The Cubs had another comeback win today, over the White Sox in what should be a great series. Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez went back to back in the 7th to tie. Then in the bottom of the ninth, Ramirez hit a walk-off homer to win the game 4-3.

They sure bounced back from that sweep by the Rays against a very strong Sox team.

I was at the Angels/Phillies game last night, and man, the Angels looked good. Seeing them put up just under 20 hits in a ballgame was a great change of pace. Add in a 7-inning, 9-K, and 2-hit outing by Ervin Santana, and the night was just about perfect. I got there early to check out BP, and man, Vlad just looks like he has fun out there. He was launching the ball during BP(yeah, I know, it's BP, but he was putting them into the concourse). Granted, the Angels faced Adam eaton, followed by Ryan Madson, but they were hitting well for the first time in about a month....hopefully they start rolling.

He put one off of the brick wall just under the clock during batting practice. That's a helluva shot. He homered in the first inning as well.

I wonder how much baseball is left in Vlad Guerrero. When the Braves were in Anaheim last week, Vlad just didn't look the same as he did with Montreal, and he's only 32 and walking around with a noticable limp. I wonder how much of a toll playing on that turf in Montreal did to his knees......

He walks with a noticable limp partially because he was born with one leg longer than the other. But yeah , Montreal seemed to take a toll on him.

The Phillies finally cooled down. The Marlins have a chance to tie for the lead this afternoon. I don't know how long the Marlins can keep this up but no one expected them to be in this position this late in June. The Marlins have a tough 3 game series against the Rays next. Everyone but the Nats are still in this thing. This should be an exciting race. It's interesting that the Marlins have 2 World Series titles but no NL East titles.

I believe John F. Kennedy had the same?

I noticed that too. He hit a routine grounder to short today and barely ran it out. I have to say it is very entertaining to watch him take BP though. He almost hit the big screen last night in BP, a ridiculous shot in that park.

I don't remember him limping this much when he did play for the Expos.

The same thing goes for Jose Vidro of the Mariners. Looks like his body and game has gone to crap, too....

Eat me Boston.

Just kidding. Kinda.

Took two out of three, pushing the Sox to 13 innings before going down in the finale. And we should have won that one two, but choked it away in the 8th, only to tie it off Papelbon in the 9th and take it another four LONG innings.

First post I've made in this thread...maybe.

But I hate Boston, and my Cards are for real, so I figured I'd do it now.

The entire 8th-13th inning part was a chokefest by both teams. they both should have won, multiple times.

Offensively, for sure.

There was some real clutch pitching going on though (outside of Perez, Papelbon, and Parisi). Of course, many of the jams were started by the same pitchers who escaped them.

Behind the mighty power of Aramis Ramirez and another outstanding performance form Ryan Dempster (where did this guy come from??), the Cubs were able to knock off the White Sox tonight, thus completing a 3-game sweep of their crosstown rivals.

This evening's win now makes 14 wins in a row at the Friendly Confines. And despite two of their best players (Soriano and Zambrano) spending time on the DL, the Cubbies continue to own the best record in baseball! :woot:
