Jays beat the Rays and are now 19-13 under Cito Gaston, whee!

Maybe if the Phillies keep sliding, they could dump Uncle Cha'lly and re-hire Jim Fregosi.

The Cubs actually got to CC Sabathia and took game one against the Brew Crew, 6-4. :woot:

On the flip side, it was a rough night for ESPN's "Big Three", as the Sawks, Yanks and Mets all went down.

I was @ the Mets-Marlins game in Florida tonight (didn't come down here for the game...but while they were playing here, how could I NOT have gone?) and now really hope the Mets at least try to upgrade their bullpen by the deadline, because as presently constructed, it is way too inconsistent, and is of course a huge risk come playoff time should the Mets make it there. If the asking price for someone like Fuentes were to drop or someone of the like, then I'd have to seriously consider it...

...and here's some photos from the game tonight:

Red Sox interested in Tejada. Certainly an upgrade over Lugo and given that he hasn't had all that great of a season (he's been good, though), he shouldn't be too expensive.

Maybe we can get rid of Hansen and Cora in the process of bringing him in. I'm sure Lugo would be dealt elsewhere.

It'd certainly be a luxury to have Tejada hitting seventh.

I'll be stunned if they dont get pen help. I hear they may get Brian Tallet of the Jays.

Ugh. Stick with Lowrie. Please.

Lowrie - .286/.346/.386 - 1.000 fielding %

Tejada - .281/.318/.420 - .981 fielding % (his slugging % has declined steadily in each of the past 5 seasons)

Lugo - .268/.355/.330 - .941 fielding %

Those numbers can be a bit misleading because Lowrie has only played in 27 games this season, but he's still far more versitile than Tejada at this point in their respective careers. Tejada is 34, supposidly, so lets say hes 37. He's peaked, it was a good run but hes on the downside of his career. No thank you.

Although Tejada is a vet and Jed is a rook, I'd still much rather see Lowrie playing SS for the remainder of the year rather than Tejada.

The Red Sox are going to have to face facts, eat Lugo's money and either let him platoon with Lowrie or deal him. The SS market is thin, and he's one of the better options out there (sadly).

Cora is falling out of favor with the Sox brass and i expect him to be moved, if there is a market for him, he's nowhere near an everyday shortstop, so pickings will be slim. I just hope if he does move, it's for a bullpen arm or as a package to find a long term replacement in LF. The latter of which probably won't happen.

Hansen is just a train wreck, he's young though, so maybe a team will take a chance on him (Cla Meredith anyone?). But his value is about as low as it can possibly be right now.

Cora sucks offensively and he's a statue in the field. Hansen, he's got the stuff. Maybe he's just not made to play in Boston, New York, etc.

And that's a very small sample size. And for fielding, Lowrie's been a guy that up until recently, they didn't think he'd be able to play SS -- he's improved in that time, but I'd have to think it's, for Tejada's sake, at the very least, a wash defensively. Hard to say how he is in big games, closest thing he's played to a big game is when the Orioles played the Sox or Yankees. I would tend to trust Tejada a bit more in a big at bat in October. I take Tejada if we can get him for cheap and the 'Stros eat some of his salary.

Mr. Tallet broke his toe while walking around his bedroom in the dark the other night; hopefully by the time he comes back he's got the big beard again.

Is Terry Mulholland still pitching? :)

Best. Pickoff. Move. Ever.

Dbacks are apparantly going to offer Gerardo Parra, Billy Buckner and Chad Tracy for Teixeira, and could also trade Owings and Jamie D'Antona if not Parra and Buckner. Sorry Brave fans, CoJack, Scherzer and Parker are all out as far as trade bait. The Diamondbacks will not trade them as they see the 3 as the face of the future

Changed my mind. Looking into it... as of late, Tejada hasn't been much better than Lugo.

edit: I also heard a Manny-to-LA rumor earlier. I'd love it if they could trade Manny for Matt Kemp.

The guy might be a decent player, but I'm not very excited about having a Bill Buckner on the Braves team....
