Viper
Keep in mind that Madden 09 will be the 20th anniversary edition of the Madden series. Perhaps that's why EA Sports decided to go old-school this time.
youcan'tseeme
This just in NHL 09 will feature Eric Lindros on the cover!
WJMorris3
You never know, it could have been a case that they went to Eli or Adrian first, and they declined.
Brendan
How is it any different than having a NCAA game where the cover has a player in the pros?
Saint Zephyr III
I'm fine with it; Brett had a record-breaking season, was Sports Illustrated's Athlete of the Year, and retired gracefully. Figures that Eli and Adrian would decline; rumor has it that L.T. flat-out blocked E.A.'s request because of the curse.Just ask Shaun Alexander...now the curse takes its time with you. DarkJourney
It's funny how people hate Favre. He is a winner. Got to love America where people hate winners. Lame.
Drew22
How is it any different than having a NCAA game where the cover has a player in the pros? You can't put a current college athlete on the cover. NCAA rules. Eagles/Heels/Dawgs/Falcons/Hawks

Lame.Nobody hates Favre (unless they're Bears, Vikings, Lions, or bitter Falcons fans). It's just that people are getting tired of the lovefest he gets from the media.Nice cover, btw. Audiodrama
Here's my quick mockup of how the cover and disc may look on the 360 (yes, I know the back is almost entirely outdated and there's only one actual pic from the 2009 version. It took me ten minutes to mock up. Piss off. )
CS85
It's so typical that Madden would want to get his Favre hard-on off on his retirement year. I'm printing off a custom cover as soon as possible. I'm printing off a custom cover as soon as possible.Yes, because Madden doesn't just collect a check for lending his name to the game, he also lends a hand to the development and marketing of the final product Also, if they really wanted to go old school as someone suggested, they'd have used Johnny Unitas. FiddySicks
I don't see what the problem is. Favre is undoubtedly one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game, he's never been on the cover of Madden (I don't think), and this kills the whole Madden curse thing. If you ask me it takes care of two problems, it kills the curse and honors a HOF guy who deserves a good send off. To kill the curse, I'd think you'd need to have a player get on the cover and have a good year.

ShinyHubCaps
They already killed the curse by having a garbage player on the cover (Vince Young, Madden NFL 08). He couldn't get much worse, and he didn't have anything to lose. Staying relatively injury-free is his only accomplishment. They killed the curse by setting the bar so low. Also, could someone post anything of Madden (NOT Frank Caliendo) admiring Favre? I think it's a stereotype that, like Caliendo's stale, unflinching brand of "humor," is overly hyped and exaggerated.Great pick for the 20th anniversary if you ask me. Besides, what do most Madden games do? THEY PICK ONE OF THE STANDOUT PLAYERS OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR. Whether Favre is retired or not is irrelevant. He is on the cover because of his accomplishments last year.

Heck, any broadcast when Madden was commentating a Favre game, it was a 3 hour Brett Favre/John Madden lovefest. Caliendo is an exxageration, but he's not too far off.
