All-Star Roster Projections

ummm...The Blue Jays have the #1 pitching staff in the majors. Halladay has 5 complete games. Shaun Marcum is 3rd in Era, and 1st in Whip. I'd say 4 Blue Jays pitchers should go.

Please tell me you don't have A.J. Burnett as one of your four Jays starters going to NYC.

Halladay and Marcum belong there, no doubt. Anyone else from their rotation would be a bit of a stretch considering they only take about 6 starters from each league.

Utley's out based on his defense. As it is, A-Rod and Jeter don't deserve to be there this year either. Also, Adrian Gonzales right now has to stay in, he's the only Padre.

But you currently have no Phillies on the All-Star team....

Utley's leading the NL in homeruns. Since Cincinnati's already got a representative in the game (Volaquez), switch Brandon Phillips for Utley. When was the last time a player was snubbed for the All-Star Game because of defense? I know Utley is MLB's equal to Notre Dame in your eyes, but use simple logic here.

The All-Star Game is a showcase for the best pitchers and hitters in the game. Simply put, defense doesn't mean :censored: for the All-Star Game. Guys with good gloves won't get elected if they're carrying a .240 average, 2 HR's, 15 RBI's, and other mediocre batting stats.

Stop beating your head against the brick wall, Hedley. When Will gives his sports opinions, there is no logic (simple or complex) involved. :P

I still feel Harden deserves the nod over Litsch. I get the DL thing, but Harden has more Ks and a lower ERA.

Utley is having a down season.
Just stop. Please.
Be it noted that his numbers are skewed, as three-quarters of his production has been at home.

Only in terms of home runs.

Here are his home/road splits.

I Split G GS PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB IBB SO HBP SH SF ROE GDP SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS BAbip sOPS+ tOPS+ Split
+-+------------+---+---+---+---+---+---+--+--+--+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+--+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+------------+
Home 30 30 134 116 27 38 6 1 15 33 13 3 19 3 0 2 2 2 5 0 .328 .403 .784 1.187 .274 206 119 Home
Away 28 28 125 105 20 31 10 0 5 17 14 2 15 4 0 2 0 1 1 0 .295 .392 .533 .925 .299 158 79 Away

More productive at home, yes. However only 66% of his RBIs are at home and he has 9 more PA's at home, not that they mean much. Plus this is not to be predicted, as CBP only has a Park Factor slightly favoring the batter at 105. In addition, his road numbers are still arguably All Star-worthy. Added to his astronomical home numbers, he could be MVP. His season so far is pretty much there with Chipper Jones and Lance Berkman; those three are light years ahead of the rest of the pack in production.

Besides, does it even matter if he's better at home or on the road?

HOMER ALERT!!

As of right now, I've got Roy Halladay, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Joe Saunders, Cliff Lee, Shaun Marcum and Ervin Santana as starting pitchers making the AL team, with Scott Kazmir as the last man out.

Harden's been putting up real good numbers since coming off the DL, but to this point, I can't see him getting the nod over any the players I listed above. Then again, I suppose Francona could draw Harden's name out of a hat, making him Oakland's lone representative since every team has to have a player make the team no matter how bad and/or talentless they are. God, I hate that rule. :cursing:

Caught me red handed there, but nevertheless, I still feel Litsch should get the nod. We shall see as each pitcher probably has 3-4 more starts before selections are made.

For the record, yes I know that Chase Utley is a fan favorite, but Dan Uggla has the stats to start this game and Brandon Phillips deserves to be there. Utley is having a down season.

I will agree with you to a certain point on that one. I feel Uggla DEFINITELY deserves to be at the ASG, and may even be deserving of the start, but Utley isn't as slumping as you make it seem.

Utley .312avg, 20HR, 50RBI, 6SB, .398OBP (35-22)

Phillips .288avg, 11HR, 32RBI, 9SB, .338OBP (28-30)

Uggala .294avg, 16HR, 38RBI, 2SB, .371OBP (31-25)

Judging by stats alone, I'd go with Utley and Uggala. Phillips is 3rd in every category except stolen bases.

Stats accurate as of games played before June 2nd.

Utley is far and away the leading vote getter for NL second basemen. Winning the vote isn't always the greatest barometer or worthiness to be the all star, but face it, in this instance, the fans have it right.

Others have made the statistical argument for Chase. Here's a video case to be made. Yeah, he's weak defensively ... :upside:

Ichiro.......anyone?

I like most of what youve got goin here especially how youve got Volquez starting for the NL. He deserves it hardcore. Same with Cliff Lee in the AL.

But what I'm most happy about is you giving my man Garrett Atkins a nod. He, I believe, is the most underrated third baseman in the league. He can hit for power and average, has a solid glove, and I remember watching something on either Sports Center or FSN Rocky Mountain (I cant remember) but it said that the past few years Atkins has like the third highest career batting average for active third basemen. Considering youve got guys like Chipper Jones and A-Rod in that same category, thats definetely a high achievement. Ive been waiting for Atkins to get the nod and hopefully he gets one. Though my Rockies arent having the best of seasons, he's still hitting in the .300 range and driving runs in.

My only problem...which I'll address again....no Ichiro?

Oh, and Chase Utley hitting 20 homers period is definetely not a down year. Hes on pace to smash around 45. And you guys are saying he's had a down year? Holy cow come on! He's hitting the crap out of people!

Since it's in New York, I'd say Rodriguez and Jeter are 100% in. The last time I heard, the Red Sox had 4 fan-votes (starters) in the infield, so there is a chance that they'll be left off if the Red Sox fans come out in insane numbers. Still, they'll probably be there, or at least one of them.

I agree about Utley. He'll be there, but not as a starter. Not enough people know him compared to MVPs Rollins and Howard.

For the Brewers, I'll say that Sheets is definitely going to pitch, and Ryan Braun will be in, but not as a starter. The fan votes haven't been sweeping in, and he was #9 OF at the last tally I heard.
