Sodboy13
Canada up 5-0 after the 2nd. That was quite the beatdown. Watched that at work alongside the Hawks game (speaking of beatdowns). One of the most intriguing things I noticed: the Czechs breaking standard hockey protocol by giving their goalies numbers 1 and 2. It was so weird seeing a "2" in net - it's like a single-digit pitcher on the mound. Korbyn
Canada wins 8-1 ... mhmm thats right. If that was the score against the Czechs, we are most likely moving into double digits against Kazakstan.

spyboy1
It's a shame that the field for this tournament isn't closer. The USA pastes Germany 8-2 and the very next day Germany beats Kazakhstan 9-0. The have nots in tournaments like this really have it bad and it's all they can hope for is just to survive relegation. MVP
The IIHF seriously needs to get rid of the Goal Differential rule. I love high scoring games, but I just hate to see teams being forced to run up the score on a significantly weaker team, just to make sure of their spot in the standings. jkrdevil
The IIHF seriously needs to get rid of the Goal Differential rule. I love high scoring games, but I just hate to see teams being forced to run up the score on a significantly weaker team, just to make sure of their spot in the standings.Well they use a 3-2-1 point system with no ties now, so that reduces the chance of a goal differtial being a tie-breaker.Overall, though they need to fix how teams qualify in the tournament. It makes no sense in a tournament where most of the players are 1 and done because of age to have teams qualify based on the previous years results. That sets up where you have teams made up of mostly 19 year-olds winning the Div. 1 tournament to get promoted and then because of age limits they can't go on and play in that higher level. That leaves a younger group to come in and they end up being killed. What they should do is take the bottom teams from the Elite level from the previous year and the top teams from Div. 1 from the previous and have them play a small qualification tournament the same year as the tournament. The top 2 teams go to the Elite tournament the bottom to to Div. 1. For instance Swizterland who had a strong showing at the under-18's 2 years ago is left in the Div. 1 level because of the previous groups result when this year they have the skill level to be playing in the elite group.
